Selling works via the forum..., by Morfx on Apr 8, 2023 23:03:54 GMT 1, Am I being an arse???
I've sold many items via the forum, eBay and Facebook marketplace.
I've always requested full payment upfront via PayPal (G&S + 4% or F&F)
I had a work tucked away and noticed someone was looking to buy the piece.
Price agreed, but the buyer wanted to pay 70% upfront and the remaining 30% on arrival. (International buyer)
I've declined the offer and it was a deal breaker..
I'm happy to keep the work as it wasn't actively for sale.
Is this the way people deal now or am I just a dinosaur?
Cheers

There are members on here who have built up trust over the years for good reason. Sounds like they probably don’t trust couriers, but that is no reason not to pay you in full.
The only reason for part payment should be for a deposit to hold the work until full payment could be made.

Selling works via the forum..., by Quinnster on Apr 9, 2023 7:58:31 GMT 1, I wouldn’t do it…
That said I done all sorts of weird deals over the years people have shipped stuff and I’ve paid them when I had the money. I’ve paid people and they have dropped stuff at third party’s. Swapped part exchanged and shipped to a framers for inspection.
The key is trust the buyer/seller

Selling works via the forum..., by Lroy on Apr 9, 2023 8:45:52 GMT 1, Without playing the old fool, there is on this forum a new generation of buyers (or/and nicknames), often young, only here to make money or to flip (especially they know nothing about it and do not buy only hyped stuff).
I have always trusted the seller and have always obeyed his requirements (I pay paypal fees, shipping etc), normal, if I want the artwork. As you say, it's a relationship of trust.
All I notice lately is that the " Sale threads" don't really work anymore - while there are some nice artworks, from the good old days - and you often see "bump".
Is it since the Covid, the global and current crisis, in fact people only buy what comes out and which is very hyped on the market (Invader, Hirst / Heni, Kaws etc) ? ...
I much prefer a nice old stencil from Dolk, a tag by Tox or King Robbo ( history of street-art ) or less known prints like those from L13 for example.

This old Dolk was next to me this morning when I read your post, so sharing for you Lroy. 😀 I’ve purposely left in the reflection as the cherry blossom in the garden has just started to bloom this morning as well. 🌸

Selling works via the forum..., by dotdot on Apr 9, 2023 10:26:28 GMT 1, walk away and don't look back.
and think on - the buyer was close to doing a good deal and they chose the wrong road.

Selling works via the forum..., by its all about me on Apr 9, 2023 11:04:12 GMT 1, I've never heard of this 70%/30% thing before. But, as others have said, I wouldn't trust it. If it's a fair price, I'm sure someone else will buy it off you in the future.

Selling works via the forum..., by strawberry on Apr 9, 2023 11:14:52 GMT 1, I think you’ve 100% done the right thing. You can’t buy anything online without paying in full for the item/s - including postage and any fees BEFORE receipt. Don’t feel bad about that decision. Your gutt was right.
As an old member (with new nickname because I couldn’t remember my login details) I was going start a new “Looking to buy” thread as I’m searching for some old POW pieces… though I’ve not bought from the forum before, what’s the preferred payment method on the forum? PayPal? Or does it depend on seller?

So I give the buyer the PayPal fees ( if he wanted to sell “ as friends ” )
