'Banksy' piece at The Greatest Auction , by Dubman on May 10, 2023 11:22:39 GMT 1, I also stumbled across the program at the point of the Banksy auction.
The problem I have with the ยฃ250k price tag, which actually seems very reasonable for an original - but is its a lot to drop on a piece that wont ever be certified from PC.
Was there any Provenance and or does anyone remember where this piece came from?

My concern is that people with no Pest Control pieces are going to use these shows to make money and some way create some Provenance. My opinion is that was fake. Not an expert but the signature looked wrong.

'Banksy' piece at The Greatest Auction , by bigaldog on May 10, 2023 11:51:38 GMT 1, The program was utter tosh, all about the money. The lettering on this piece was dubious to say the least, but I did enjoy the comment made that it was definitely by Mr B because of "the energy" of it. Mmmm, cracked concrete. The Buzzcocks collection was good though.

It was sprayed around 2014 under Banksys looping aeroplane in Liverpool and was a response to a real Banksy rat he did in around 2004 with the text "Never liked the Beatles", also in Liverpool. Guess it hit a nerve.

The man's ego has no bounds - just have a read of a few pages of his highly implausible 'biography'......

Even if the biplane rat had, from a technical standpoint, been perfectly executed, no Banksy enthusiast using their brain should have hesitated to describe it as a fake or an ironic homage.
Regardless of their level of experience, for anyone to have thought the piece could be authentic is evidence of their failure to understand the sensibility of the artist.
Because believing it might be genuine would require also believing that Banksy would ever refer to his work or to himself in the third person โ like some self‑indulgent prat suffering from the street‑art equivalent of Mott the Hoople syndrome.

'Banksy' piece at The Greatest Auction , by Lroy on May 10, 2023 22:47:36 GMT 1, Of course it is. It has been made in 2013, and is appearing in the SBโ s book. SB from Liverpool made this rat ( clever quote ) as a joke, not a naughty one, I mean a โ clin dโลil โ๐ ๐ to Banksy. Nothing serious, SB is a very talented, kind and joking artist. he created the SSOSVA with more than 4000 artists years ago, from the smallest to the greatest. Street-art world ! Panini section ! One of my first friend in the good old times !

'Banksy' piece at The Greatest Auction , by The Greased Piglet on May 11, 2023 2:30:52 GMT 1, I mean any t**t that thinks Banksy would return to the place he drew a piece 10 years later, refer to himself in the 3rd person, add a piece which was a parody of another earlier piece clearly doesn't know a lot about the artist's practise or history. The eel that bought it deserves his worthless concrete.

'Banksy' piece at The Greatest Auction , by My Name is Frank on May 11, 2023 9:07:16 GMT 1, I watched this last night and it seemed obvious to me that Bank robber was the seller and buyer, looking to legitimise the piece and his reputation by sticking it on TV. Why channel four would have accepted this as an auction piece when antiques road show dealt with a street piece as they should (its worthless), is blatantly a publicity stunt for bank robber to try and paint himself as an expert in the field so ha can start to self certify authentic works.
Or I just overthink things like normal.

'Banksy' piece at The Greatest Auction , by mojo on May 11, 2023 10:20:42 GMT 1, How the hell did C4 put their name to this programme? Surely there are legal consequences to selling/promoting fake unauthorised artworks that could have quite simply been authenticated by the artists legitimate authenticity service...but weren't. Obviously as forum members we all know that Pest Control will not authenticate stolen street works particularly when they are not even created by Banksy. To introduce those people to viewers as experts is factually wrong, the recognised experts are Pest Control and C4 know that. The only thing this programme did was highlight why Banksy's official authenticity office is called PEST control.
PEST noun An annoying person or thing; a nuisance.

'Banksy' piece at The Greatest Auction , by Gnocchi Friends on May 12, 2023 6:50:46 GMT 1, The list of backfiring is growing. The artwork was published in a book, credited to Silent Bill, and anyone who is an expert on street art removal, Liverpool street art, or the history of Banksy, will have looked at this book. So the program researchers obviously didn't do their job, unless the point of the program is to highlight how fraud occurs within the art world. Silent Bills price/valuation has leapt up, and if I'm correct, he's owed some money.
