Insuring your Banksy.. , by wazandy on Apr 30, 2008 5:41:07 GMT 1, It's odd.
Many years ago I spotted some really nice prints in Santa's Ghetto and now have, hanging on my wall, what is almost a bloody house deposit.
Jack & Jill, Barcode and Love is In The Air...
But I've been robbed in the past, and I'm now utterly paranoid that these things are going to (eventually) get robbed by the bastard that cleaned me out last time.
(Have back to base security and all that, but still...)
How in hell do I go about insuring a Banksy?
I'm in Sydney, so very few art appraisers know of him, nor can give any kind of figure for how much his stuff is worth.
I've given my insurance company a rough idea of their value, but how do you insure something that has a value that seems to rise almost by the month?
Do they insure to today's value, the value you bought it or it's potential?
God I'm confused. What do you all do?
(And by the way, if there are any Sydney-based Banksy fans around, get in touch!)
Cheers, as always...

Insuring your Banksy.. , by BME on Apr 30, 2008 7:11:13 GMT 1, Hey Andy,
There's an Aussie Urban Art Collectors Forum with a few brief insurance notes. Lots of Sydney based people too.

Mate, you're a legend. Thanks a lot.
Check this out by the way... There's a tiny gallery in Redfern that had, two years ago, Golf Sale and one of the Rats - both signed. They were going for $650 Aus each.
My wife wouldn't let me buy them because they were 'too expensive.'
I've shed a tear or two over that one I can tell you!

Insuring your Banksy.. , by holden on Apr 30, 2008 7:24:58 GMT 1, Swing by as bme suggested.
Funnily enough went into NRMA last night and asked the very question. There reply was if its over 10k Aussie it has to be listed with them with a valuation from a gallery. Ebay wasnt good enough! and she couldnt be sure about an online gallery supplying a quote. She suggested also to take a pic of it with your mug in it to show ownership if the worst case scenario happens. anything under 10k did not have to be separately listed. Am going to follow up the gallery quote thing, I'll keep you posted.
See you on the underside?

ouch! yes, I've had a few regrets as well. Refusing to pay over $1000 for a Banksy original .. still hurts. Anyway, no complaints really, its a good scene, I've met some great people and have a couple of nice bits of art to show for it.
