Once identified we can call in the police as, if they actually did sell your mate a Popeye for $5000, they have literally mugged and robbed him.
Back on topic, a Popeye from the edition of nine with black painted backgrounds sold for £2k in December so consider that an actual benchmark. Therefore, back in the real world, around £750 for the regular edition seems about right.

I should add that it sold immediately, and a good few other members also contacted me to purchase.

Crazy numbers, which won't be repeated any time soon, but I thought it worth pointing out.
