Best Auction House for Banksy ephemera?, by daveyuk on Jul 21, 2023 11:45:13 GMT 1, Does anyone have recommendations for auctioneers that would be interested in a very large collection of Banksy, mostly low cost, items please?
I have to downsize my collection big time and thought I'd get rid of it all and maybe a physical auction place would be ideal (?). I'm in the process of making an inventory which includes tons of Banksy LPs, CDs, DVDs, Stickers, postcards, Walled Off pens, business cards, T-shirts, Dismaland, Banksy vs Bristol posters, books etc. loads of WCPs, Plus, err, apologies in advance... items by other artists who are rather influenced by Banksy 
I have to make room in my house for people to live apparently so I thought I'd get rid of the lot in one go. Might not be the best time for it but any ideas would be most welcome please.

Best Auction House for Banksy ephemera?, by billybob1969 on Jul 22, 2023 2:44:24 GMT 1, You'll be looking at a regional auction house, and the issue with small stuff is that a lot want to charge catalogue fees. If you had like a soup can or parliament poster that would may be worth a go at somewhere like Lyon and Turnbull or Sworders. Anything worth a few hundred quid or so (or less) I'd just stick everything on ebay over a few weeks at ยฃ1 starting bids if you want shot of it, as another member said here is also a good shout if you price sensibly.

Do a bit of work beforehand on your inventory with estimates and also see what you can group together (for the lower value items).
Then if you do, share the link on UAA as plenty of people will be interested. ๐
โฆfwiw, for the โinfluenced by Banksyโ items, I would not include them in the same auction as it would devalue original items.

I guess there are two types of ephemera, those authorised or created by him like Peckham Rocks, Petrol Bomb posters, Difaced currency and then the rip off stuff like the little Japanese flower thrower statues, the clown with gun prints and these record covers. Pest Control wonโt issue certificates even for official ephemera but for me itโs still perfectly fine to catalogue as Banksy whilst the other stuff should be after or in manner of Banksy. I think as long as people list and catalogue correctly they should be able to sell what they want, I think it becomes an issue when people sell things (even innocently) with inaccurate or misleading descriptions. |

If that makes sense ๐ TBH sending them to an auction house will be a similar amount of work, youโll have ri prepare a list negotiate fees, agree estimates and reserves, often provide proof of purchase and so on |
