What price should I expect to pay for a Faile box?, by motor on May 2, 2008 15:11:54 GMT 1, Obviously it depends on images. The last one on Laz web was ยฃ8K+VAT. There will be two boxes in Bonhams auction later this month so who knows...

What price should I expect to pay for a Faile box?, by bobbymeachamjr on May 2, 2008 15:40:36 GMT 1, The size you referenced 50cm x 40cm x20cm went for avg of 14K gbp each at auction. They were both monotone. Laz had some of these @this size @ยฃ8K+VAT a while ago. Expect to pay between these 2 reference #s (8k-14K) depending on the quality of images and/or execution / colors etc
The extra large boxes are 50cm x 50cm x 30cm. Minimum of 10K gbp (prob for a monotone). Nice full color ones much more than 10K gbp as you're getting 4 full sides of beauty...

What price should I expect to pay for a Faile box?, by Deleted on May 3, 2008 0:52:08 GMT 1, would it be fair to say that Faile's signature "medium" is the box? I personally love them and if I had to choose, would get a box before a canvas piece.

Everyone one's entitled to their own opinion - but I think you're cuckoo in the coconut if you really think this. Some of the boxes are really nice, but nothing compares their canvases imho.

You're right Dime. The thin ones (50x30x5cm) in Black & White and Red & White were actually $1500. Thanks.

you sure they sold or did laz 'pull them' again in anticipation of jacking the prices higher? Because the boxes LAZ had left over were, well they were 'left overs' i.e. weak. If you bought one for 3-5k, sure hold on to it, maybe they'll double again maybe they'll drop? But no big deal if the value drops 5 or 10k when you paid 3k. But if you pay 20k for one and things drop ...holy jesus...
If you want to buy a box now you're going to pay more than it's worth, do yourself a favor and put the money in a CD or something. You'll thank me later.

What price should I expect to pay for a Faile box?, by oneeye on May 6, 2008 1:39:11 GMT 1, You're going to pay more than what's it's worth? I don't get that. Art is only worth what somebody is willing to pay.
And to be honest, I don't understand your logic. Why would someone put their money in a CD when they want to invest in something they can look at everyday and appreciate?
I remember a friend of mine was getting the same type of advice when he was contemplating purchasing an Adam Neate original for 20K...thank God he didn't listen to the advice.

just giving my opinion and I may be wrong sure, but it is an informed opinion, but hey whatever rocks your boogie dude.

Art is only worth what somebody is willing to pay. Anyway, about this comment which I hear all the time over here to justify ridiculous prices, well take your art to an auction house or insurance firm and see how they value it. They weigh numerous factors above and beyond the old it's worth whatever you can sucker someone to pay for it. 8 years ago some people were "willing to pay" several hundred dollars a share for Cisco systems, they obviously paid more than it's worth...

What price should I expect to pay for a Faile box?, by darjeeling on May 6, 2008 13:33:54 GMT 1, Thanks but that's already been pointed out and isn't the point of what I was saying. But hey, if you own a box I suggest you get your ass over to Bonhams asap. And let's not kid ourselves folks. Nobody spends 20k on 'art' because they "want something to look at everyday." It's all about ego and money at this level.

Not saying its a good or bad idea to buy one of these investment wise. All im sayin is that a wealthy art collector can fart out 20k.
