Royal mail insurance Dont risk it! (probably), by Pete the Post on Sept 14, 2023 19:45:53 GMT 1, Im not really sure if this will be new info to people, but having just discovered it while making a small claim, i figured it may be worth mentioning.
If you use the insurance through royal mail, even though the post office will ask you "whats the value", they wont pay that out.
My sale was a pretty trivial 55 quid minidisc, but when i tried to put a claim in, the form states that what they pay, is the price you paid for it, if you provide proof of that price, not the value.
So if you happen to send a 5k piece through special delivery and insured (as i have before!), but you paid 25 quid for it, youll get the 25 quid back.
I know it will change a shit load of what i ship from now on, so thought it worth a heads up.

Id say post office and parcel force insurance is now completly worthless most of the time. Funny enough, just as the "service" they give also becomes useless.

Just needed to show proof of sale either via my store or paypal transaction, etc.

Royal mail insurance Dont risk it! (probably), by Poster Bob on Sept 15, 2023 11:28:33 GMT 1, I also donโt understand what has occurred but have previously been compensated by RM for the sales price of items. Iโve said it before but virtually all couriers will take your money for insurance but they have clauses excluding them from liability for art, antiques, collectibles, anything that has appreciated in value, the list goes on.

This time i tried to make the claim, they want the ebay transaction ID, photo of the receipt from posting and a copy of the original purchase receipt, or you get your claim instantly dismissed.
Im going to run it through again later with a complaint letter photo instead of the receipt photo. Ill grab some screen shots as i go.

Royal mail insurance Dont risk it! (probably), by Pete the Post on Sept 15, 2023 12:08:48 GMT 1, Very handy for the higher value stuff, nice one.
Most of what i ship regular is pretty low value, but enough to not want to lose it thanks to the post office. Going to be fun working out how to reroute all of that without loads of messing around.

Royal mail insurance Dont risk it! (probably), by its all about me on Sept 15, 2023 12:55:32 GMT 1, Just another warning about ParcelForce/Royal Mail. I received an artwork from abroad. Had to pay 20% VAT with no option of querying the amount of import duty. They insist they can't change it and that I have to pay and then try to get a refund later. They also took over a week to deliver the item even after I paid the import fees. And, to add insult to injury, I had to pay ยฃ12 admin fee for their so-called services. Jeez!

Royal mail insurance Dont risk it! (probably), by Zippy on Sept 15, 2023 14:36:52 GMT 1, Looked good until you delve into the details....
Regarding artworks, our insurance policy does not cover scratches, scuffs, deformations and other cosmetic damages, neither depreciation. You have to ship your items into wooden crate.

yeah i know the onus is as always on the person sending.
i guess you need to keep some of those crates after all. And yeah we've all got them...
(trust me - nothing worse than getting a quote for a small crate which costs as much as the item you're trying to send and you know you got rid of the other one you had .... until last year !! )
