Damien Hirst H14 โข The Secrets, by cemltz on Jan 26, 2024 0:33:47 GMT 1, No stronger evidence than the fact that limited releases sell out every time, and timed releases sell a boatload...
Not my cup of tea, but I have no love for lots of things in this world that have unlimited demand from others. That's kinda the beauty of it.
Truthfully, I find no beauty in Hirst's recent works or the way they have been marketed and released. All while his old woodcut spot prints are some of my favorite pieces.

Damien Hirst H14 โข The Secrets, by Art lover lover on Jan 26, 2024 0:43:19 GMT 1, I think the problem (?) is that the wider market likes the large dibondsโฆ Posed out of interest, not agro... but whats you're evidence of that? (Im aware my only evidence is this forum and personal preference - but I still feel we, as a collective, are a pretty good barometer of the print market sentiment)
Not for this specific release clearly, but the public laps up everything he does. In droves. Every time. Our little UAA cosmos is only part of the story.

Unfortunately these days, who can even trust that limited edition releases actually sell out? They may say it, but who can believe it really. Especially when Hirst claimed to sell the $100 million diamond skull in 2007, only to say in 2022 that it never sold and still has it.
The art market seems to be built on lies, fake sales to build hype and generate real sales from suckers who see the fake auction results as a sign that an artist is investment material. At this point, they can churn out anything, and forum members will throw away their money for even things like timed editions.
I'd recommend that everyone unfollow places that sell limited editions and focus on the artists and real art. Editions are for suckers. Once you unfollow, that FOMO goes away.

But that did that unique currency prints on paper, which many consider cheap posters, so maybe it's the other way round.

Assuming you love Mehdi's Slide paintings for example..He had one show at Golsa with them and than Almine picked him up. Salman Toor changed his style a bit and one show later he's at Whitney and basically gone. Plus plenty of arstist who get picked up by galleries while still doing MFA. Prices are not a problem, but the access is.

If the aim of DH is to prove this point, then: bravo, point well made. (Even though I don't think it is)

Despite having a number of Hirst works on the wall, I'm beginning to loathe the guy.

Damien Hirst H14 โข The Secrets, by LJCal on Jan 27, 2024 14:30:37 GMT 1, Posed out of interest, not agro... but whats you're evidence of that? (Im aware my only evidence is this forum and personal preference - but I still feel we, as a collective, are a pretty good barometer of the print market sentiment) Not for this specific release clearly, but the public laps up everything he does. In droves. Every time. Our little UAA cosmos is only part of the story. I'd say the sentiments being expressed on this board are starting to filter out. I was pretty forgiving of Hirst even though he's a bit of a charlatan, but the last 12-18 months have left me exceptionally bearish on his market and questioning what the blatant greed (and disregard for his collectors) will do for his legacy. He burnt a lot of people in 2008 and after 5 or so years people seemed to have forgotten and his market started moving again, I'm not sure if that will happen this time. I also don't think it's the crappy giclees that will suffer.

I used to like the guy and thought he was really talented and artistic.....now just a greedy old money making machine using his Minions to churn out rubbish.
I am sure he had nothing to do with the painting of the new release - he works around admiring them probably thinking these guys have done a better job than he could he ever do.
This guy probably cant even paint hence the splats and coloured paint blobs !
Has anyone actually seen him paint anything ?

Damien Hirst H14 โข The Secrets, by Acme Thunderer on Jan 28, 2024 9:33:05 GMT 1, I think it is safe to say that Hirst / Heni will continue with the dibond releases long after this as they have clearly invested in or bought the production on this material.
Whilst it will continue to make Heni money on primary sales, the secondary sales for these releases will unfortunately decline. They are starting to saturate the market with jumbo shiny prints and there are only so many people will display or have space to store in jumbo boxes.
You can now get the Invader Heni releases for under ยฃ2.5k, which is below cost (@ $3k + vat/fees). Had these releases been done on paper, there is no way on earth would these have ever be reselling for this price. It is clear to see that a 100cm x 100cm Invader on paper would be worth far more than on dibond.
The complete lack of enthusiasm for this release just shows that proper collectors (that is you guys on UAA) know that dibond releases are a complete waste of time (unless they are Virtues of course).

I havenโt seen any Invader Heni releases offered below cost yet. Most are either not selling due to a reserve or above cost. As to prints prices have taken hard hits too.
I think it is safe to say that Hirst / Heni will continue with the dibond releases long after this as they have clearly invested in or bought the production on this material. Whilst it will continue to make Heni money on primary sales, the secondary sales for these releases will unfortunately decline. They are starting to saturate the market with jumbo shiny prints and there are only so many people will display or have space to store in jumbo boxes. People are selling for below ยฃ2.5k (as below) and those sold at other auction houses are not recouping their cost after seller fees. If they were printed on paper, they would not perform as bad.
