Damien Hirst, The Secrets H14, by New Wave Dave on Jan 13, 2024 0:17:21 GMT 1, As usual, the comment section of IG delivers. Pretty brutal. I personally like 'em. Hirst seems to really understand what will look good in a professional's sparsely decorated flat.

Damien Hirst, The Secrets H14, by blurp on Jan 13, 2024 1:09:14 GMT 1, I wonder if Hirst cares. By the looks of Instagram my dude has an expensive lifestyle to fund and people keep lapping it up. To me, the real art is how he's managed to extend and transform his practice from cutting edge to an expensive TK Max store. I mean, if we view the mass production of art at overvalued prices he is unmatched and a total master. People are willing to accept and pay top dollar for subpar, art group, charity shop level work because it has his signature. It's now a confidence game and ponzy scheme.
Also... here is the Guardian's review of this collection and Frieze in general for what its worth. "There is an unutterable sadness to seeing Damien Hirst’s new paintings at Frieze... big pictures of gardens, their blurry photorealism besmirched with Pollockesque drips in a desperate attempt to bring such duds to life..." Hirst, being so prolific and often divisive, is an easy target but I feel this is on point.

Hirst, being so prolific and often divisive, is an easy target but I feel this is on point. Isn’t the art business always a confidence game? the ponzi scheme accusation is something I never understand. Are people really tricked into investing in his art, being promised a profit when they sell?
Anyway - I still like him and buy the odd work but struggle as well with the recent output. The good thing is that I can decide to simply not buy anything.
No matter how successful or rich, artists always long for appreciation.

Damien Hirst, The Secrets H14, by its all about me on Jan 13, 2024 15:12:23 GMT 1, The thing about Hirst that I find odd is why he is doing this? He hardly needs the money. How many millions (billions?) does somebody need in their bank account?
He used to be a great artist but now he is simply churning out crap. Doesn't he care about his reputation or his legacy when he is dead and gone? It seems the answer is a resounding 'no'.
I see his earlier work, (Away from the Flock; A Thousand Years; The impossibility of Death; butterflies trapped in gloopy paint). What happened to that artist?
The profundity, the daring, the ambition, the thoughtfulness. It's gone. It's all gone.

Damien Hirst, The Secrets H14, by kfroms on Jan 25, 2024 17:01:50 GMT 1, Dibond again. Timed edition again. Huge again ( 120x90 ) Glossy mirror again. Expensive again (3.5k USD plus tax ). Label signed on reverse again. Not for me. Again.
Shame. Would have liked them on paper or at least matt dibond

Damien Hirst, The Secrets H14, by beemur on Jan 25, 2024 17:33:23 GMT 1, I think these are a nice splash of colour and will hold their value, at least, because they are so inoffensive. But my wife has said she doesn't want me buying any more Dibond mounted giclée prints. Oh well.

Isn't this a good situation?

Damien Hirst, The Secrets H14, by blurp on Jan 25, 2024 17:44:37 GMT 1, This release is hilarious. Performance art. Mid-level, TK Max, Marshall's, Home Sense or even WalMart level art. However the hustle is absolutely huge. I love the performance and hubris, "Look at this sh!t art I made!". I also love the absolute genius and craft in grooming a bunch of middle-aged men to open their wallets to this stuff. Absolutely brilliant.

If heni wanted to make more $ they should print on good old fashioned paper... surely its a cheaper method of repro, cheaper p+p and Im certain more people would buy it.
