Banksy ๐ "The Crownโ Pub, Pilton, by Jules Leotard on Jan 24, 2024 18:26:58 GMT 1, I am starting to dislike you out of jealousy.
I was traveling in and out of London 2001 to 2007 on a regular basis. I only had a remote awareness of Banksy. Wow, did I miss the M.V. Louise Michel.
I am grateful for WCP for this reason alone (Lroy and Lukas).
Looks like Sam Am just planned a family holiday for me. Could they let us know where the next Cut&Run will be, so I can incorporate it into the trip?

Banksy ๐ "The Crownโ Pub, Pilton, by LJCal on Jan 25, 2024 6:05:34 GMT 1, It looks awesome, one of the owners is a local artist who makes these really cool wind up monkey boxes. www.rowenajdraper.com/sketch-book
Dorcas Casey also made some of the artwork for the pub. She did some sculptures at Dismaland. I think if you look at these two confirmed artists, their background and style it's not to far fetched that Banksy has some kind of interest or involvement. The interior has a similar feel in places to Walled Off. Even the website feels very similar to Walled Off. Either that or it's a very clever marketing ploy to save a failing village pub.

If youโre into music you could do Glastonbury and check this out before or after the festival. I donโt think I could handle Glastonbury anymore but the younger or more adventurous should definitely go and add this to your itinerary.

Banksy ๐ "The Crownโ Pub, Pilton, by lukas01 on Jan 25, 2024 12:20:09 GMT 1, I wonder if they also make the suspended pint? Do you know if they do something like this? The place would lend itself very well.
In practice it is very simple. You go to the Pub with your friends, order 4 pints and pay for 5. You leave one pending, for those who can't afford to buy a pint in a warm place.
Write all this on a whiteboard and enter the updated total number of how many outstanding pints are still available.
Nice venue. Particular.

I didn't sleep for 4 days solid, needless to say it took me about a month to recover and that was in my prime.
Personally (and) stamina aside it lost the appeal when they erected the mega fence. It kind of gentrified the whole thing and cut out a lot of the Hippies and travellers. Michael Eavis was quite happy to sell his 100,000 licensed tickets and let another 100,000 people in for free, in fact he almost encouraged it. Obviously the locals and councils hated it, TBF in 2000 they reckon there was more than 250,000 on site and it was fucking mental, completely lawless and probably the largest open air drug market the world has seen.

Ah the good old free party scene, that was another part of 90s culture that felt like complete anarchy for a few days a year. I used to love going to those parties and watching the police just give up once a few thousand people turned up and then pretty much watch from outside for the next two days. TBF on a lot of the cops, at the time most of them thought it was a massive waste of resource chasing people round the M25 all weekend to stop a party. I don't think I ever saw a rave broken up by the police TBF and I was at some massive ones with a big police presence around the sites.

Banksy ๐ "The Crownโ Pub, Pilton, by Onket on Jan 25, 2024 16:02:56 GMT 1, I moved to London in 2000 and went to my first 'squat party' as we called them then, that summer. Never looked back. Think I went to my last one in 2010 just before my daughter was born and there were a good few years when I went literally every weekend. Did see a few stopped by old bill, unfortunately, but its a bit easier on a Sunday afternoon when there's only about 100 stragglers left. The Olympics damaged the party scene quite severely and of course Hackney Wick is mostly redeveloped now. I see on Insta that the kids are still getting out pretty regular these days though. Good for them.

Good for them. ah yeah I used to go the raves in Hackney Wick, the one I remember most was in a meat slaughter factory, it was epic. Probably around the same time in 99-2000. I probably went to my last one in the early 2000s when a lot of the London clubs were thriving and then went for the slightly more sanitised nights out at the End, Fabric, Turnmills and Bagleys. I just couldn't keep up with the pace of some of the squat raves especially as most went on for days and had an unlimited supply of cheap drugs.

Think I went to my last one in 2010 just before my daughter was born and there were a good few years when I went literally every weekend. Did see a few stopped by old bill, unfortunately, but it's a bit easier on a Sunday afternoon when there's only about 100 stragglers left. The Olympics damaged the party scene quite severely and of course Hackney Wick is mostly redeveloped now. I see on Insta that the kids are still getting out pretty regular these days though. Good for them. ah yeah I used to go the raves in Hackney Wick, the one I remember most was in a meat slaughter factory, it was epic.
