The issue is that primary galleries seem totally delusional about secondary pricing
you cannot sell work at source for twice what it sells for on the secondary market and expect to generate cash
I dont think any gallery has actually figured this out, or they wont accept that their profit calculations are way way off
eventually reality takes over
same for any business model

Would love one of the unique ones but just cannot justify that sum of money in this market. Would be tempted by a litho but again theyโre wildly overpriced. The colours are gorgeous though and her stock only seems to be rising.

Now, they all think thousands for an edition is completely reasonable. I've tried to talk to a few galleries (White Cube being one) about this actually, and they don't seem to care.
At least the Condos are less than double these ๐คฃ๐ฅด

Unfortunately greed by its very nature knows no bounds so it was inevitable they would push the margins too far the other way
That is what's now happening
Whitecube a prime example sat on a fuck load of stuff, the issue is this;
Lets say you sell an edition of 50 Julie Curtiss for a greedy horrible price and as a gallery you are trying to scalp people and you end up selling one at 10k, you have 49 left, you cannot sell a single one for much less or the guy who paid 10k is going to be very annoyed, as is the artist. Hence they bury their heads and wait for the market to turn.
I say good luck to them, they will be waiting a looooooong time
