I'm guessing the last few will be even more expensive. I still think it's a fair price though, for such a low edition.

Either price has changed (was £850) or more likely gone up as there are only a few left. It looked a nice item but is very small. The certificate it comes with is not signed but I think that is because Yoko is quite frail these days and so possibly no longer signing works. Show at Tate is very big and interactive which I enjoyed.

It may be simple but, at the same time, there's quite a bit of thought and imagination behind it. I like that. It knocks spots off most of the bland urban art that sells on here. But if you don't like conceptual art then you wont like it. Which is fair enough I guess. |

Yoko Ono was a highly regarded artist long before she got involved with the Beatles.
You don't get a solo exhibition at Tate Modern simply for being the widow of John Lennon you know.

As 'It's All About Me' says, Ono was already a respected artist before Lennon came along. It was through her art that they met and one piece in particular 'Ceiling Painting 1966' that changed the world of one the greatest songwriters that has ever lived. That alone says something.
I don'y believe she split up the Beatles. Ono probably saved a very damaged John Lennon and helped him explore another sides to his art. If she got on stage with Lennon and wailed, it's because he wanted her there. He was no shrinking violet. If she broke up the Beatles, the others never seemed to blame her.
As for 'milking his death', this is a Yoko Ono exhibition and art release, nothing to do with Lennon or The Beatles. I think the estate has been quite reserved in comparison to others. I mean, she has the rights to some of the greatest songs ever written so why bother anyway. Having said that, the re-working of Happy Xmas (war is over) actually makes me angry to listen to!!!
Anyway, regarding 'A Box Of Smiles 2024' it's obviously a nod to previous conceptual work that she's made various releases of. Simple on the face of it, like most of her works. Makes sense to release a small edition with what could be her last retrospective show. And like her or not, she has had a huge impact on British popular culture. I haven't been to the show yet but will be getting over there soon enough.

Regardless of your opinion of Yoko One (which mine is favorable as I do believe she was the guiding force behind the song 'Imagine') the look on Chuck Berry's face is priceless. |
