The correct time to sell very much depends on how one views the medium to long‑term prospects of the market for Martin Whatson.
Personally, I consider Whatson to be a charlatan. He is in a category similar to that of other vacuous, formulaic, impostor artists โ like Mr. Brainwash and Alec Monopoly.
From an artistic-credibility or legacy perspective, my advice would be for collectors to get out while they can.
But from a financial perspective, who knows where Whatson's market will end up?
Certainly not me. Because if (a) the pricing of his work is in any way connected to (b) his level of talent, the only relationship I've noticed between the two has thus‑far been inversely proportional.
