Interesting! , by Pete the Post on Mar 19, 2024 14:37:15 GMT 1, Wonder if witchcrafter will go after this with the same energy as love is in the bin? Im no fan of JPS or his Mrs. But if this place keeps baiting her, she may be pushed over the edge. This is an obsession for them now, and that is in no way a healthy thing. Possibly better to ignore it now unless you fancy dealing with that responsibility.(by which i mean us all! i did my fair share too! its not just "sport" anymore though, its getting too serious)

Dating new pieces to appear older, and presumably charging more for them!? I wonder if he can prove they were concepted in the 90s, with sketches, etc?

Interesting! , by topper on Mar 19, 2024 15:32:31 GMT 1, The thing with these stories is, who's interest are they in?
Action houses, no interest. Artists, no interest. Owners, no interest. Police, no interest.
Nobody care except a few obsessive date collectors.

I'd assume a collector, paying top dollar for a "classic" 90s Hirst, would be interested that their piece is not actually from the 90s.

They would be quite happy with the provenance from the artist saying it's a 90's classic.

Whether they'd like to know the truth, or stay happy in their ignorance. Maybe they can get their money back, if they feel cheated!?

They were clearly hoping for a bit more bang for their buck.

Interesting! , by LJCal on Mar 20, 2024 8:02:05 GMT 1, Hirst works from the 90s are more sought after but let's face it most of the animals in formaldehyde start falling to pieces after decades, it's not like any of it is crafted by his hand, and i've heard collectors have had animals replaced when they started decolouring or decomposing, essentially the whole piece is refabricated, should these be given new dates or new titles?

I think based on this article there is certainly merit in terms of dating the work from when it was conceived, given it may be replaced at a later date. Whether he truly conceived of the works in question in the 90s only he knows I suppose, certainly the general concept started then, if I were a betting man I doubt he would have had specific plans for these works.

Talking of animals 'falling to pieces' I have a couple of early words by Polly Morgan. They too have decomposed and are gradually ending up as dust. I'm quite disappointed.
