A relative newbie here (as you can tell by the number of posts.)
I won a purported "original" banksy piece on ebay, for the relatively cheap amount of GBP 3800. This of course, is pending the seller revealing to me the provenance of the piece. Since the auction ended, I have emailed him at least 5 times about the authenticitiy. Ignoring my emails, he has been demanding payment, and does not seem to aknowledge that I have even mailed him at all.
Anyways, does anyone here know this chap? I am NOT about to send $7600 to someone who can't even reply to my mail....

I'd say if you're new to this, you should be very wary spending £4k on anything... particularly something so easy to fake.

upon doing this i set out to try and get this piece authenticated and was able to do so. After several weeks of research, field experts were able to authenticate the piece and we are now able to confidently say that this is indeed an Original piece of Banksy street art
FULL PROVENANCE WILL BE DIVULGED TO THE AUCTION WINNER
contact details will be given to anyone upon request for the company to ask about the authenticity of the given DOA or any other questions you may have .
from the above he states he/she has proof it is by banksy which cant be proven because banksy doesnt aunthenticate street pieces as he written on the original listing... if he doesnt send across the company who did this then wouldnt pay...in all honesty i wouldnt pay because the company could be one he has set up himself...
i suggest you contact ebay and say to them no emails recieved from buyer about the supposed proof of aunthenticity and pretty sure they will back you over him/her...
there are amazing artists you could go for if your willing to spend...agree copyright stuff is amazing and if you search this forum will find great work by him as well as other artists such as neverwork / spqr / guy denning (some originals for under £2k and look amazing) / rourke vandal / dale grimshaw has came out with some really impressive stuff aswell...
if your looking for specific artist such as only banksy you could get some fantastic prints for the price you paid for this....good luck and hope it gets resolved soon but really i wouldnt pay for this as like others have said you just cant tell if it is real or not and the piece was not supposed to be taken off the streets for someone to sell if it is true... s
