I dont know where you are getting your facts from , Lee is right the London show sold out apart from I think one painting. I also know this to be fact as my friend bought one large painting, I know of two other people who also bought amazing pieces at your so called inflated prices . As for saying God help anyone who bought them , what a ridiculous think to say to anyone!. Its got nothing to do with you and I just dont see your motives, its shit like this that brings this place down.

Nice graphs, and skanky I saw the show very shortly before it came down, for the third time and for what it's worth at least half the works was still available. If it sold out, congrats to Choe for squeezing his fans and Pez I know taste differs but personally but I just have a hard time calling an artist "seriously f**king talented" and "bloody awesome" who paints big asses and guns and uses titles like face fucking fat chick, crying on my boner etc. I'll admit he's got 'some' talent but very immature, way overrated and way overpriced.

The key word being "I". This has proved to be an interesting thread. Darjeeling, I agree wholeheartedly in your summation that much of his work is immature. I can see how that would upset some whereas I find it rather humorous. As for the big asses and guns, well, I'm desensitized to it I suppose. We're 70 or 80 years removed from Picasso painting nudes of all sort and war scenes that make up some of the most important paintings the world has ever seen. I'm not trying to compare the two artists, just making a point that this is nothing new or earth shattering from a subject matter standpoint. If a title of a painting is going to upset someone, than go for it- part of the point is to get a reaction.

Many of the worlds best artists reflect the culture and society that they've grown up in or surrounds them and often spark a large amount of praise and hatred from their fans and detractors alike. I can't think of any great artist that left thier mark on the world without a heavy dose of skepticism from the public initially. Choe is no different in that regard which is obvious from this thread alone. From my vantage point, what seperates him from the pack is the command of the basics that he has which are simply miles ahead of most. It's kind of like the truly GREAT abstract artists- the best could replicate any scene perfectly if you gave them a pencil and a piece of paper despite the fact that it's not what they do on a day to day basis. IMHO, you have to have that foundation to knock down whatever barriers are there for your art to shine.

I've been collecting for almost 10 years now and I find this entire group of artists so raw and refreshing that I feel like for the first time I'm stumbling onto something new rather than catching up to what has already been done. But I digress, as for Choe's immaturity, the guy is 33 and he's been on the map for over 10 years now. I can't speak for you but I do know that if there was a trail of my tracks between age 20 and 30, immature would probably be the most appropriate term to define it. Unfortunately for my wife, it will probably be the most appropriate term for the remainder as well.
