BANKSY, the most controversial and hottest graffiti artist in the world, whose works will be in Hong Kong for the first time joining the LOVE ART exhibition on April 23-28, in association with Helium Foundation and Schoeni Art Gallery. His rare and unseen works including stencils on doors, wood panels, canvases and prints will be flown in fresh from the UK and will stay for three weeks after the show. Exhibition opening on April 23 from 6:30pm, Hong Kong Arts Centre, Wanchai.

packed (other artists also featured including haring, hirst, etc..) to the core
was there for only a few minutes as it wasn't worth the crowd (will probably be back again over the weekend when hopefully there wouldnt be as many people)
staggering prices for the banksy prices.. usual signed prints available at HK$160,000 and up (GBP10k and up)... a few other originals but otherwise nothing really that out of the ordinary

I went today and was pretty underwhelmed other than by the prices. I'll post piccies of the canvases / one off's when I am back in the UK tomorrow, but as a heads up (all prices are HK$ so assume an exchange rate of $14 - $15 to 1GBP)
Bird with grenade canvas - 2.8million - sold
A couple of monkeys on doors - 3.4milliong each - one sold
Kates - 3 at 1.2m each - one sold
Heavy Weaponry - didn't check this one
Three signed rats (Gangster, GOWVC and Love) 160,000 each, but none were numbered. They fobbed me off with some crap explanation that they were a series of 5 and had been verified with Banksy (very smelly)
Grim reaper, CND - 240k
Grannies, Sephia Morons and J&J - 220k each
Napalm - 420k
These were all signed and numbered
GWB, LN, Diface TennersFlying Copper - POA
There were a few Hirsts and a hand full of other prints including a set of LOVE's
If you are in HK it's just about worth popping in, but no need to book a flight to see this one ;D

At least they are getting the work out there and on display for a wider audience.

Banksy Hong Kong Exhibition, by loupa on Apr 27, 2008 12:53:12 GMT 1, no not really but he's done plenty of pieces in his time so trudging out the same few prints is boring. and no i don't think its good for it to be shown in that way, it terribley hung doesn't do any of it any justice. just another boring white box with pictures boshed up without real thought. looks like the curator was just thinking dollars rather than art. look at his own show in la, micallef's show, failes show, the last black rat show, they were all hung with style and were so much more interesting. that is not in the spirit.
