Banksy Safari in London , by My Name is Frank on Aug 13, 2024 14:12:36 GMT 1, Maybe paint a millennium dome for it to be mounting? Dont think the Thames Barrier is the right shape, but the Dome is local enough?
Even better a giant tortoise?
Who can come up with the best idea for what the randy giant should be humping?

Banksy Safari in London , by Dice on Aug 13, 2024 15:25:10 GMT 1, I like the piranhas best. Feels very old school in style along the lines of the turbo zone truck.
Does anyone else think he may have done the work onto vinyl and then just stuck it into the shelter? I don’t see him spray painting all these fish under cover at night. Also the box had clear glass/perspex before, it wasn’t frosted like it appears to be now.
Anyway hopefully will be conserved now and we will see it again someday.

There’s pics of overspray on the inside metal bars - so it didn’t look as if it was vinyl.

It's been taken away and according to news reports currently at Guildyard Hall until a more permanent location. Can anyone confirm as I'd like to see it.

Banksy Safari in London , by Smokeidaeye on Aug 13, 2024 17:12:04 GMT 1, What an impressive way to end the week. You would figure there would have been tons of eyes and extra cameras on the Zoo as it has seemed like a very likely target/end point all along.

Via ZSL “Bringing people closer to wildlife is what we're all about - and this artwork is helping us do just that.”
Not sure that was my interpretation on the meaning 😄

Also I can't help but think that the whole experience should have started with the London Zoo piece.

I really dislike the reflections from perspex, but I guess at least it has a chance of lasting more than 24 hours so more people can see it.

Banksy Safari in London , by met on Aug 13, 2024 20:32:07 GMT 1,
[...] Does anyone know whether the painting is currently visible — or did the metal shutters go up when the zoo opened this morning? [...] I think I saw that they’d cordoned it off and opened a different entrance. I don’t know enough about their operations strategy but I remember it being quite small, if he did manage to tag their only entrance and force them to choose between increased traffic pulled in by the piece and actually opening the park it’d be quite a clever way to add to the difficult position he’s put them in as you’ve already described
Thanks for the help.
Your posts prompted me to go on a trek to London Zoo.
I arrived around 13:00. The lighting was too harsh for a good context shot incorporating the signage of the zoo, but decent enough to photograph the Banksy itself.
Perhaps at about 14:00 or 14:30, workmen turned up with their large sheets of acrylic.
According to one of the zoo's executives, a decision regarding the final location of the artwork hasn't yet been taken. They definitely want to continue showing it to the public, but may end up moving it inside for security reasons.
The staff members I spoke with were enthusiastic about the piece, which they viewed as fun and playful. Interestingly, none of them interpreted it as a criticism of London Zoo, or of zoos generally.
No glare, no shine, no reflections? WTF!?
Now, that is a proper finish for some proper art. Just like a dibond piece from HENI.
