Banksy • Cans Festival • 2008, by simongoff on May 6, 2008 13:02:15 GMT 1, i'm down there now. the road will reopen tomorrow. majority of the road is now empty except for the two cars by the banksy hoody wall. feels very strange and quiet. all the art on the walls is still intact. will post again tomorrow.
Thanks Fragile, I think I will cycle past later today

Banksy • Cans Festival • 2008, by Curley on May 6, 2008 13:19:58 GMT 1, friends of mine are going to London next week-end : I hope they'll be able to visit the place. but don't you think that if the tunnel is open to all, all those pieces will get dfaced and covered with tags etc within a couple of days ?
Surely Jef that's the whole point of Street art....its open to all and as its says in the entrance of this show "GENTRIFY THIS!!!". Its not a gallery or a museum but the greatest Street art show London has ever seen.
Street art by its very nature is supposed be transient and change over time... as other people add to it and deface things. I for one will be quite happy to see them change and mutate over the next 6 months or so and i will enjoy repeat visits with my camera.

Banksy • Cans Festival • 2008, by stillborncrisps on May 6, 2008 14:26:22 GMT 1, My only criticism of the event would be that there were far too many people taking photos for the sake of taking photos. Everywhere I looked people were clambering over each other to take photo after photo and then moved on to the next piece to repeat the process! I didn’t see to many people actually looking at what was on the walls, floors, all around…shame as there was so much to see and take in.
Think that's more just a symptom of modern life these days, isn't it? You go to a gig, and all you can see is a sea of hands in the air with camera phones recording shîtty little movies with bad sound.

Banksy • Cans Festival • 2008, by bristolboy on May 6, 2008 14:33:38 GMT 1, I finally made it up there yesterday after tackling the Bristol 10k, the queue was huge but definately worth the wait. The place was buzzing and there were awesome pieces everywhere I looked, very inspiring and enjoyable, never has such a short walk taken me so long. Vhils pieces blew me away, thought they were great. Unfortunately the posters were all sold out so if anybody has one they wouldnt mind parting with please get in touch.

Banksy • Cans Festival • 2008, by Jef Aerosol on May 6, 2008 15:45:23 GMT 1, oh, I think I didn't express myself properly : of course, I'd love to see the tunnel live on, evolve, get altered, new works added, etc... What I was fearing wasn't that, obviously, on the contrary, but tags and grafs and people trying to chisel parts off and other "negative" stuff... Imagine tags and crappy writing all over Vhils works ! But don't get me wrong : at the same time, I'm totally against all kinds of protection of street art with perspex or such stuff ! I just hope that the people who couldn't make it to the festival and want to visit the tunnel next week-end (some friends of mine will) will still be able to enjoy the works. Hope I'm making myself clearer now !

Banksy • Cans Festival • 2008, by tomjedimaster on May 6, 2008 19:46:55 GMT 1, last week, while i was drinking whiskey at home, i came across this thread and checked out the cans festival site. it said "bring your own stencils", so i decided to make my own. my wife caught me cutting up some images i slapped together in the middle of the night and decided to take the piss out of me.
so yesterday morning i woke up to a rainy day in leamington spa, and i flew down to london on my motorcycle to an absolutley awesome sunny day.
I dropped by cargo to see if there was anything interesting on the walls, then went across tower bridge twice (i'm easily amused by this as i'm canadian) before making my way to find parking at the end of leake street. i've been there before hunting the invader and banksy piece a couple of years ago, but this time it was crazy and packed with people.
i lined up for 1.5 hours and went straight to reception and asked where i could spray my first stencils. the nice guy gave me a spot and left me to it. i was so nervous, i'm 30 years old, a mechanical engineer in the motorsport industry who has given talks about brake systems all over europe and the states, and here i am with a few cans of halfords paint that i bought two days ago, along with my 12 pieces of cut A4 paper and 20 people behind me staring at me and taking close up photos. i was shaking like a squirrel coming out of hibernation. so i plugged in some wax tailor on the old ipod and let it rip.
check out my two butterflies, or butterbomb:
not a bad spot...EH!?!
also met up with logan hicks on the off chance. i'm buying a canvas off of him so it was nice to finally meet up. poor dude was hungover.
well done to everyone who put on the event, you guys did a fantastic job. i had a great day, thanks!

Fantastic artists, great atmosphere, met lots of fellow members as well! I went there everyday and never had enough of it. I did not wanted it to end
But I've got lots of pics and some great videos.

Banksy • Cans Festival • 2008, by saffa on May 6, 2008 21:52:01 GMT 1, On the left hand side of the tunnel, near the 'Nobody Cares' piece was a massive scale-electrics stencil. I could only make out 'Little Boys...' but there was more. Too many people standing over it to read it fully.
Anyone know what is said and who sprayed it? Bandit?
