Adam Neate sold on ebay, by kahuna on May 23, 2008 21:59:44 GMT 1, I liked the simplicity of the Neate sketch with the blue background.
Suspected it was from the book and when I asked the seller about provenance, received a response saying they had a receipt for purchase from Elms Lester.
Will sales like this discourage artists from personalizing items in the future?

perhaps but i think a way around that is for them to insist on making the inscription out to someone and do the drawing to boot. If it had some random name like John on it, I bet ppl online would be less like to bid for it unless their name was john. Or, you could just ask him to dedicate it to "ebay"

Adam Neate sold on ebay, by jam on May 23, 2008 23:26:29 GMT 1, In fairness, it is an original work (sketch) that you can document as being sold through Adam's representing gallery. Compare that to what people are getting for poor street pieces these and I can easily understand why these would be worth this type of dosh. Most of the ones people have posted are very cool, and the black/blue looks great IMO!

Adam Neate sold on ebay, by weeble on May 24, 2008 0:07:03 GMT 1, This one on the Bay has a kinda white marker stripe running though it. Like it was really considered, unlike most of the signed, on-the-fly books. Would like to know more of the history of this one. Looks really nice framed. If I had the book, I think I'd scalpel it out and frame it - providing it didn't have a crease down the middle obviously!

Adam Neate sold on ebay, by sm on May 24, 2008 2:03:13 GMT 1, I doubted the authenticity of the piece as I don't remember Adam using a white marker for these sketches but could be wrong and also it claims to be "professionally framed" but if you look at the right hand side it appears to have been poorly glued onto a sheet of paper.

Adam Neate sold on ebay, by londonview on May 25, 2008 11:28:26 GMT 1, Same thoughts as sm - I emailed him about this and he said it is 'ultra rare' because he only used two pens for the first few books. I thought this a bit strange.
As for the 'professionally framed' I suspect this is a slight stretch of the concept of getting a frame professionally made to fit and then mounting it yourself...

I agree Mike that it is a joke, but now others will follow the ebay route when they realise the value of Adams personalised additions to their books. Would be a great shame if Adam stopped personalising his future works.

Adam Neate sold on ebay, by plasticfork on May 25, 2008 18:04:33 GMT 1, Mmm I did wonder whether this was from the book too but re "I emailed him about this and he said it is 'ultra rare' because he only used two pens for the first few books. I thought this a bit strange" - The ebay guy is lying; I was standing right next to the first book being signed on opening day and it was done just with one pen like all the rest - I saw the first 6-5 books done in all the same manner. I doubt very much this is from the opening show (day) I can't comment on the opening night beecause I wasn't there
It is a shame that people just try and cash in on Mr Neate's generosity and kind nature - I hope he will keep spreading his artisitic talent so freely, personally I think he will because it is that same free spirited approach that captured our imagaination and got him to where he is now.
On the other hand he could beat the flippers and fakers at their own game AND make a packet: sit down with a note pad and bang out 50 drawings (the man is quick) in a hour and make a mint for himself on the bay...

Adam Neate sold on ebay, by RBK on May 25, 2008 18:30:06 GMT 1, From what I heard - I think Adam did try to personalize the good majority.
It's a bit sad people take advantage of his good nature and sell these on. I find it mad that people are cutting these out of the books. If you want a 'doodled-one' at least keep it in the book!

Adam Neate sold on ebay, by worlddomination on May 25, 2008 19:44:12 GMT 1, Well in my opinion its a short term gain and a long term loss, anyone who rips the book up and sells adam or rons bits will live to regret it for sure in the future. like many people i specifically wanted mine dedicated to me and that far outweighs any monetary value in my opinion. rest assured mine and i would presume the vast majority will be going nowhere. i've nothing against people selling them on ebay either really it's their choice, it's happened before and it will happen again, not just with adam but many many more artists. anyway the show was fantastic and if anyone's not yet been get your arse down there before it's over. peace and love me bredrin
