DFace Street Improvement Prints, by spirit on Mar 19, 2008 18:55:21 GMT 1, ... a real indicator of just how many people are into this scene for the money as opposed to the art. I seem to recall a poll on this site in November 2007 which showed over 80% of people on this forum said there was a financial element to their collection (be it short/long term profit or investment)
I have no problem with long term investment/profit because that can sit comfortably with art appreciation. Buy it, frame it, stick it on the wall and enjoy it. If later down the line you grow tired of it but it's value has held or increased then you can sell it or trade it for something new. Short term profit bugs me as it has nothing to do with appreciation of the art and it's all about cash driven by hype. Then again because there are lots of people in it for the short term it means I can buy Matt Small's and Conor Harrington's etc at leisure - if everyone was in it for the long term they would probably be snapped up quick.
That's kind of the point I was making. I accept just about everyone has some financial perpective to their collecting but it is the ratio of short termers Vs long termers that is a little depressing.

DFace Street Improvement Prints, by giiiant on Mar 19, 2008 19:49:27 GMT 1, When I make purchases over ~£200, I only do so if I know that I can resell it comfortably to get at least my money back. I don't buy to resell by any means, but lack of disposable income means I need the security. Hopefully I'm not alone here.

DFace Street Improvement Prints, by newmang on Mar 19, 2008 20:53:36 GMT 1, i just want to say a big thank you to Fearkiller for posting that link and to anyone who suggested downloading an autorefresh program
i immediately downloaded www.download.com/AutoRefresher-for-IE/3000-12777_4-10062693.html & used it on [a href="http://www.blackratpress.co.uk/view-cart.php?quan=1&add=street-improvements-3"]http://www.blackratpress.co.uk/view-cart.php?quan=1&add=street-improvements-3 [/a]
within five minutes i had one in my basket
All this tool does is save you the hassle of pressing F5. I assume you can set a small refresh interval, but doing this would be dangerous, as you may see the buy button and before you get chance to click it the page would automatically refresh. Its all luck, I managed to see the Buy button today (a first for me on a timed release) but it was still out of stock by the time I clicked it. This program would only be of use if it recognised the buy button and clicked it for you to put it in the basket. Ross was just one of the lucky ones who's browser window refrshed at the right moment (IMO).

Its also about knowing the link direct to basket then?
Is this fair - is anything fair?
Lets hope BRP change the basket setting - so it's down to luck, not IT skills.

The sort of graphical code that hotmail/ebay uses to stop possible bot attacks... First to buy and enter correct code gets the print...

DFace Street Improvement Prints, by aginghippie on Mar 20, 2008 3:47:17 GMT 1, I'm doing an Ethical Hacking course for work soon, taught by some of the best in the country, I will let you know if it's possible. It's possible but to be honest no competent hacker would bother. There isn't enough money involved and the risk for a print would be disproportionate.
The best site system would be to use a random URL and a cookie. The URL prevents guessing so everyone has to wait until the Buy button appears, and the cookie is there to stop people from reusing the URL. Probably the URL alone would be sufficient.
An automated system would need to load the page, see the Buy key, extract the URL and start a series of browsers with that URL. What would kill it though would be the reload time. By the time the browsers had started the prints would be gone.
There is still one weakness even with this system but than can be dealt with procedurally.
I design the security side of these systems for a living and out of curiousity I've looked at a lot of the gallery sites. The best is easily BLK/MKT, then POW, and finally the simple URL ones which are just a lottery. Bottom line is that you are no more likely to get a print with software in the initial rush than you are with f5 because of the reload time. In the aftermath an auto-refresher is probably worth trying until it gets you blacklisted ;D

DFace Street Improvement Prints, by griffermans on Mar 19, 2008 8:29:54 GMT 1, I was sat at the computer last night asking myself can I be arsed to line up again, F5 at the ready, in yet another pointless quest to secure a PRINT. Even if it is by Dface.
Then I saw that Dr D was going to be a Dreweatts in June. The site of the next explosion! Yes we all know exactly what's going to happen. It WILL happen again. 3, 4, 5, 6+ times the estimates.
Just wanted to offer this as a heads up. For the same money as the Dface you can have a Dr D ORIGINAL, edition of 10. What makes it an even better investment is that 1 of the 10 is up for sale at Dreweatts in June, estimated at a lot more than 250. And you know it WILL sell, and for 3, 4, 5, 6 times estimate.
There are a few left from hear if you miss out on a Dface. And by a couple a couple.
