How much should I expect to pay for a Faile 1/1?, by Daniel Silk on Jun 7, 2008 11:50:04 GMT 1, I would like to add a faile 1/1 on paper to my collection but am not sure how much to pay. I have found a really nice Get Acquainted 1/1 that might be up for sale, its beautiful and covered in paint but Im not sure how much to offer. The last few 1/1 pieces I have seen sell for around £7k, does that sound about right to make an offer of £6.5k, £7k? Thank you
Sounds about right to me but I guess the size and colouring of the image might also make a difference.

maadddbeatz -it was a private sale from the original owner to a gallery... and the piece is epic! (as you know with your matching military death)
i bought my giant faile dog from the same seller shortly after... there were 15 produced, all hand painted, each in completely differently colors, no two being the same... it is NOT numbered and the Pats said to considered it an original.. signed and dated 2003 ...

i think the POW reciept said it was an original, its 41" x 50" framed
note i have no interest in selling, i just like to keep a track of what i have for insurance values and my own interest

How much should I expect to pay for a Faile 1/1?, by maadbeats on Jun 7, 2008 19:31:12 GMT 1, graeme, not sure on that one. Original as being unique from the other one in the edition?? Looks silkscreened with acyrlic. The ones we are talking about are fully painted. No screens. Great piece though and I love how its framed. Almost looks like a Bast

yeah its silkscreen with arcrylic, i wasnt thinking it was going to be worth $60k just working out what it is, as its not stamped and numbered, and the reciept says original

How much should I expect to pay for a Faile 1/1?, by bobbymeachamjr on Jun 7, 2008 22:44:14 GMT 1, Oh well, we all want to get our pieces to fit into certain categories but
1. NOT ORIGINAL: Same design/composition/screen with or w/o paint splatters etc. This is a varied edition 2. Unique colorways don't make it "original". This is a play w/semantics. 3. What about the art itself? Doesn't even seem to matter to most as long as we get that "category"...

How much should I expect to pay for a Faile 1/1?, by bobbymeachamjr on Jun 7, 2008 23:02:09 GMT 1, there goes the categorization again - "on paper" Shouldn't the art itself be what artwork should be worth?

maybe from a philosophical perspective. but from a real market standpoint, what its been done on can make a big difference in price. works on paper generally command a lower premium vs. canvas and wood.

I agree with this, I own a Jeff soto piece on paper that I feel works wonderfully well. He often works on wood but for this image I feel paper was the right choice. Why should it be worth more money if it was painted on wood or canvas? It's the same amount of time and effort.
If it was a study/sketch on paper then maybe so.
If the artists chose to use paper for a piece over any other material then then that should not really effect the price.

How much should I expect to pay for a Faile 1/1?, by jam on Jun 7, 2008 23:41:02 GMT 1, It is also worth pointing out that there are a fair amount of artists who's work is more coveted and more valuable as works on paper, rather than canvas. In the end, I would rather have a strong image representative of the artist on paper, than a mediocre piece on canvas or wood.

Real market standpoint is not made up of sheep @the lower end. The critical evaluators of art do not need to be told what is "original" or x is greater than y because x is on a canvas...

I've never said that a work is greater just because of what its been done on.
