POSSIBLE NICK WALKER COPY CAT SCAM.., by bullet on Jul 14, 2008 22:43:42 GMT 1, There is a few questionable nick walker items on ebay at the moment. Im really wary of those NIKERS prints, i really want one but am not convinced by some of the auctions.
Ebay is getting worse, i tend to only buy from and sell to people that i know now from this forum and from past ebay feedback as i find it really un-trustworthy

POSSIBLE NICK WALKER COPY CAT SCAM.., by Heavyconsumer on Jul 14, 2008 22:50:26 GMT 1, The buyer of one of these started a thread here recently to see if anyone knew who the artist was. My first impression was that they were some kind of copycat print, however, if I remember correctly, the set was printed a few years ago now. If that is the case then of course such a motive can be ruled out. Also there is a sig that in no way resembles any part of "Nick Walker" or his standard sig, so I'm not sure this is the case. HOWEVER, I had felt that the first seller was definitly trying to imply that it COULD be a Nick Walker, which clearly the sig demonstrates it isn't.

POSSIBLE NICK WALKER COPY CAT SCAM.., by senobyte on Jul 15, 2008 10:04:11 GMT 1, I know this is the wrong forum. I am complete noob, please I need your help and patience. I am about to buy a SPQR "paint bomber" print off ebay for around ยฃ200. I appreciate this is small fry compared to the big bucks you all deal in, but I'm just starting out. Apparently the print was bought directly from Matt and he can provide me with the correspondance between them as provenance. It is signed of course. Can I have your thoughts as I'm a bit suss.
Here's the ebay number: 150268192258 Seller = hundreddollarhorse Hope that works ?

I'm sure it's all above board but I had asked for the provenance and the seller said he bought it directly form the artist and he can provide me with a paypal receipt and correspondance between the artist and seller. The print is signed and numbered and I'm sure it's ok. I'm just starting off so I appreciate your help and patience. I just wanted some reasurrance.

POSSIBLE NICK WALKER COPY CAT SCAM.., by neville on Jul 16, 2008 22:39:24 GMT 1, It was me who posted on the forum recently after I bought print no 2/5. I really did buy it and I wanted (and still want) to know who the artist is.
The seller appeared genuine, and is not the same seller as the one currently on ebay. This person is selling print 3/5 for the second time in the past few weeks.
After I posted on here I was contacted by someone who said they had bought 3/5 thinking it was Nick Walker, but now realised it wasn't, and they were really keen to find out who the artist was, possibly in order to recoup their outlay? Don't know if this person then went back on the sale hence it coming upagain from the original seller?
I believe the person I bought from was genuine about the print, the signature was clear enough on the listing to see it wasn't Nick's (either with a bit of research or in my case by glancing across my living room to my TMA london), but the Vandalesque subject matter could lead someone to consider it might be his work, and maybe the second seller is trying to capitalise on this.
However the description in the listing does not infer or imply it is by any of the artists mentioned in the title, the signature is visible, and it is up to bidders to buy on the basis of what they see, which is what I did because a) I like the print, the image is one I like b) I can't afford another Nick Walker vandal print so this is the closest I will get to a print of the bowler-hatted gent, and it rally is a nice quality screenprint in it own right and c) I was curious to find out who it really was by. I don't believe it is a scam, if it was then wouldn't they have pushed the nick/vandal reference and not shown the signature at all or else faked it to actually look like Nick's? If someone puts up a Moona Lisa signed by "Bert" for sale and says they don't know who it's by, would you think that was a scam because to you they are making out it's by Nick? Also why would you scam the same edition number twice, nos 1,4 and are unaccounted for so far! I think its just a local artist who sold some of his work and the people who bought it from the gallery hoped it just might be by someone well known, but its not.
