Guy Denning Original Canvas - For Sale, by timimiflash on Aug 7, 2008 9:12:39 GMT 1, Yup. To many on the forum art is just a commodity and little about the art itself. If you own or see up close a GD work you can truly vouch for his talent and craft. They are worth every penny. Love the one above but we all prefer our own. Own 3 and wouldn't part with any. My fav

Guy Denning Original Canvas - For Sale, by redfred on Aug 7, 2008 10:09:25 GMT 1, Got to agree with everything Photoxtc just said, always liked Denning but was a bit put off by some of his subject matter, recently bought my first Denning and up to now everybody who has seen it reckon its in a different league to the rest of my stuff, which is a bit annoying when you consider I have some of Banksy, Micallef and Neates finest hanging on my walls!!

Guy Denning Original Canvas - For Sale, by Bram on Aug 7, 2008 11:19:42 GMT 1, Mr D is definitely acquired taste (the marmite thread is on here somewhere) his subject matter is usually dark, mainly due to his erm,,,,dark past. He tackles subjects that are not that user friendly and therefore rumbles up a few emotions which can be both compelling and dispelling in equal potions. There is the odd piece that makes you want to examine but turn away at the same time (Monkey Pumps Varnish for example).
Not too many people want an (expensive) canvas about a drug addict injecting herself on the wall or a painting about dependency on Anti-Depressants but that is why some people rave about him. You don't come across artist like that much. Oh and he's bloody talented with a knife and brush as well.

says the person who couldn't identify conor harrington from a painting and the initials CH...
Even if you knew what you were talking about your opinion means zero to me..

Pimp, your constant slating of other people's collections and/or taste is getting quite boring now.
The fact that you haven't had the bottle to share some examples of your superior artistic judgment with us leads me to believe that either you or your collection is full of shit.
So which is it?

Guy Denning Original Canvas - For Sale, by graeme501 on Aug 7, 2008 13:12:21 GMT 1, i have to say, that probably about 80% of the time, i agree with pimps opinion, i just would just word it differently
as for guy dennings work ... IMO i dont think there is a more hyped painter-artist on the board, some pieces are borderline acceptable and some pieces are awful, and the price tag that he commands is completely ridiculous when u take into context the standard and quality of his work compared to other artists
for around £9k (which is the price of this one yeah?) you could buy a very large connor harrington canvas, a large, colourful faile 1/1 on paper, a david choe original, something like 3 giant herakut originals, even if u looked about a micallef charcoal on paper

Christ on a bike, it's like reading Brian Sewell views on Banksy.

And you could also buy a very nice Denning! As for naming a more over hyped artist. How about the guy who created this masterpiece?

Seriously guys its not worth debating. Everybody has different tastes and the market decides the value. Some silly statements about car boot sales should just be ignored.

Guy Denning Original Canvas - For Sale, by robinbanks on Aug 7, 2008 14:53:48 GMT 1, Walker isn't over-hyped. True, his popularity has grown exponentially recently and he is enjoying much more mainstream success, but rightly so in my (and thousands of others) opinion.
Bit of a cheap trick to pick one of his weakest images to argue your point though. There are countless other pieces he has created over the last year that you could have chosen which would much more ably show just why so many more people are collecting his work.

Sorry, no offence intended but the same could be said about GD

Guy Denning Original Canvas - For Sale, by graeme501 on Aug 7, 2008 15:06:16 GMT 1, ok, what has denning done so far in his career that his originals merit selling for £7k(offers over) ?
from an artisting point of view, talent wise, denning is average at the very best , i honestly think i could knock up something of the same standard of an average denning in about a week

Guy Denning Original Canvas - For Sale, by Harveyn on Aug 7, 2008 15:17:46 GMT 1, graeme501 - you don't like his work fine. If you can knock up work like this in a week can I suggest that you try it for a living.
Everybody is entitled to their opinion. I happen to like Nick Walker as well and I have his work in my collection. A significant number of people have stated that they like Guy's work and this piece. Its not a crime if you do not.
Some people would pay £2-£10k for a piece of cardboard found in the street.
Each to their own.

Guy Denning Original Canvas - For Sale, by Deleted on Aug 7, 2008 15:35:30 GMT 1, I reckon that different people will always have different views on all things, Art being just another for people to agree or disagree on. Its good to get everyones opinion and ideas about this Artist and his work, but the outcome will be that his admirers will still like his work and the ones who dont like his work wont buy it. Good to hear a lot of views though all the same.

Guy Denning Original Canvas - For Sale, by Harveyn on Aug 7, 2008 15:41:42 GMT 1, One other comment I would make is. Irrespective of whether you think this piece is overpriced to rubbish Guy's work with statements like "car boot sale" and "I could produce this in a week" is just ridiculous. Just because you don't like his work does not mean that it is rubbish.
I do hope Guy has not read this thread because for a talented artists who has spent his live developing his skills to have to read such ill thought out flippant comments is outrageous & disgraceful. Even though they appear to be coming from less than 2 or 3% of those people who have commented.

Guy Denning Original Canvas - For Sale, by Guest on Aug 7, 2008 15:50:01 GMT 1, Everyone is entitled to their views, Im sure if Guy was reading this he wouldn't give a s**t. Artists get used to people either loving or hating their work, it comes with the territory. and seeing as the majority like the work, I cant see him complaining too much.
