As for the wind up, pretty transparent and also very sad comment on the "need" to own a Banksy print by all those who wanted to believe it.
Banksy has proved he is no fool, and as a result why would he allow a bun fight to develop via a rumour circulating on an internet forum he has nothing to do with. Im sure Banksy is wise enough to appreciate how unpleasant it may be for people if he chose to release a limited edition print in this manner.
Cans should be about the art and not the chance to own a piece of paper with an image from Banksy's head

Fair enough we all have the odd joke but that was no joke. Mammal loves everyone to know how 'in' he is with the whole art scene and has in fairness been right with many of the things he has said. If he says he has information about a release then why shouldn't we beleive him. Some of us will go well out of our way because we love Banksys work and like to own and show his prints. (This is a Banksy Forum isn't it) How can you possibly slate anyone for wanting a peice of Banksy's work on a Banksy forum? As for someone saying we were out to get a freebie and why would we beleive it, these were supposedly for sale at ยฃ400. Mammal has shown himself in his true light and I for one will have words with him when I get the chance but that is between me and him. In the meantime I would like to suggest that this does not happen again as next time it may be true and us real fans/collectors that are prepared to put ourselves out may miss out on a genuine release. At the end of the day I would rather have gone and found out it was a hoax than not gone and missed out. For those of you that think its still funny then thats fine by me, I do have a sense of humour but I do think alot of credibility and respect has been lost here!

To quote POW, they will always announce a Banksy print on the homepage of the website in advance of a release, often at least a week before the print actually goes on sale.

the only reason this worked is a lot of his mates piled in to back up the "joke"
whilst it may have been intended to put out /piss off /inconvenience ebay touts it also left genuine fans fucked off and out of pocket.

Leave it open to discussion, but I will say Cans 1 seemed to have more high concept pieces than what I'm seeing out of Cans 2 so far.
