2nd Cans Festival โข 2008, by snakes on Aug 23, 2008 15:58:23 GMT 1, Is there somewhere near the Cans site where i could get a cup of tea and a cake?(i need these things) or should i take a flask?. there is a cafe round the corner, when I went to the first one I didnt bring a drink with me and was gasping for one as it is a bit muggy in the tunnel but after queing up for over an hour to get in I just walked round thirsty as I didnt want to que up again. Any ques this time anyone? And is the public painting area ok to paint in???
Probably one of the best cafes in London is Terry's Cafe, 158 Great Suffolk Street, SE1 1PE.
Maybe a little bit of a walk away from Cans but i can assure you that it is well worth the trip ;D

2nd Cans Festival โข 2008, by docmax on Aug 23, 2008 16:28:16 GMT 1, Went this morning at 10 and it was empty, definately no conspicuous yellow t-shirt wearing banksy. Went back at about 3 this afternoon and there are quite a few people but certainly not enough to warrant a que.
Only 'freebie' I got was a Cans 1 Festival Programme that was left by a sign saying 'take one its free'. They seem to have been long gone when I went back at 3 tho.
P.s. - Is well worth a visit tho, some really nice pieces that photos dont really do justice

conor harrington and word to mother were the standout pieces today. really phenomenal.

If you're going for 'which is best...' for atmos etc. of course cans 1. It was the first, big hype, very sunny day, massive crowds, security and a mind blowing array of stencil work. Plus you have the inimitable Mr B's work which I would have thought every one on this board would vote for.
Cans 2 is totally different, stunning freehand graf, relaxed atmos., no queues, fun and inspiring. No Banksy (apart from in the organisation, I think) so leaving the amazing skills to speak for themselves.
Some of the type work was truly awesome, I loved PE's rabid dog, ST's work was fantastic... plus a plethora of other pieces that I haven't got a clue who did them.
IMO it's worth visiting as much as Cans 1. It definitely broadened my artistic horizons ;D

(we flew past around 4 this pm)
Nice vibe not busy and no fakery.
There's a fair splash of PE and plenty of others along with a
slash of CH which is certainly worth the trip in itself.
( not forgetting Lucy M ... aha!)
as for B ... well if you look closely i'm sure you'll spot the remnants of the past.
..the past sure is tense (first to guess the artist gets a prize).
..
