How would a lottery work?, by Octopus UK on Feb 27, 2007 18:18:34 GMT 1, Hi, sometimes on this forum I see reference to a POW lottery for future Banksy prints. Does anyone know how the lottery MIGHT work?
One option is everyone buys a "ticket" which are limited in number (say for a print run of 100, 1000 tickets are issued). The price of the ticket would represent the ratio between prints to tickets (eg prints worth £200, tickets cost £20). Then a number of tickets equal to the number of prints would be drawn (No one gets refunds but the winners get a £200 print for £20).
Another is that the unlimited number of tickets are free (but limited to one per person) and 100 are selected and these people pay the full cost of the print (£200).
Any thoughts?

Don't like the idea of paying for nothing.
If it were to be a lottery, why not take details of anyone interested, and then pick the lucky few at random.

I'd prefer the second option but how to stop someone getting lots of tickets? With option 1 at least someone has to pay cash for each ticket. But if you have deep pockets you could amost guarantee getting a print by buying lots and lots of tickets.

There's gonna be duplicates no matter how you do it, but at least this way POW would maintain the 'offering of prints at affordable prices' and also amass a huge collection of 50ps with which to employ someone who could give us updates on when stuff's coming out.

personally, i think they should do it one evening when most people will be at home and at least the americans will be out of bed. there will always be a few people that miss out but maybe try to please the majority.

The lottery idea (unless I'm mistaken) came about because their site couldn't handle the load of a billion people all refreshing at once. Their new website doesn't appear to suffer from this... so why do all of the admin associated with a ballot when they could just release them on the website as with the other prints? My two cents worth. :-)

What if instead of a lottery, everyone just went down to a location and payed a fiver and picked a tube at random. One tube per go, then go back of the cue. Some tubes have banksy's, signed and unsigned while others have Zeus prints
