VERMIN Authentication for Banksy Street Art, by mcster on Sept 5, 2008 23:08:18 GMT 1, Usual spouting of rubbish i see. On what grounds can anyone sue Vermin for giving their expert opinion on whether a work is real or not? You can't sue someone for their opinion in this country. Maybe in some communist states you can but not here. Get over the fact that Pest Control have left the door wide open to this purely as a result of their own inception. The only resolution would be for Pest Control to start authenticating authentic pieces! Be they prints or 'street' pieces. (They choose not to)
The thing is, who made vermin a team of 'experts'? Until their credibility is confirmed by Pest Control, Laz, Banksy etc, why would anyone be concerned with their opinion? I'd be interested to know exactly who vermin are, and why their opinion matters? They could be my Dad and his pub mates for all we know. Personally I hope that Pest Control never authenticate street pieces, they aren't put there for authentication and resale.

That's easy - because they are holding themselves out to be experts and that creates a liability. That's what the liability insurance is there to cover. If someone buys a 100k piece based on Vermin's assurance that it is real and it turns out to be fake then Vermin are going to get sued. Now Vermin can mitigate this liability with terms and conditions but then their service becomes valueless since they are not standing behind their statement.
Realistically Vermin are toast because Pest Control exists and no sane person is going to spend serious money on a piece that Pest Control as the artist's representative refuses to authenticate.

VERMIN Authentication for Banksy Street Art, by aginghippie on Sept 6, 2008 22:20:40 GMT 1, The "What! boy" is a good example of a work having provenance in it's own right. The work is acknowledged by the artist (it's in his book) and there is a solid chain of ownership. In that case you wouldn't need either Pest Control or Vermin to certify it, it stands in it's own right. In a case where Banksy hasn't acknowledge the work though it's a different ball game.
But at the end of the day this is all moot because nobody but a total idiot would spend serious money on a work that wasn't either authenticated by Pest Control or acknowledged by the artist. You will never be able to sell that work in a serious auction and you will never get it in the catalogue raisonné when one is published.

VERMIN Authentication for Banksy Street Art, by gibbin82 on Mar 16, 2011 14:30:12 GMT 1, I believe these Vermin are the same as mentioned in Martin Bulls excellent books "Banksy location and tours" Vol's 1 & 2, they are associated with another setup (I think) called Bankrobber. Who are responsible for ripping out, buying and selling street pieces by Banksy. They were also involved in an exhibition of stolen street pieces that was put on in London some years ago. They have no connection with Banksy, Pest Control or Pictures on Walls and their certificates do not prove anything is genuine. They are as the name chosen Vermin but could have equally called themselves parasites.

Spot on.
There are quite a few people, some of which are no longer active on the forums that have a huge amount of knowledge and experience. They are a sad loss as they can provide valuable information that would show Vermin/Bankrobber up for what they are. Any info on this forum may well be buried deep in the vaults. But to all newcomers, it's worth a trawl through the archives to educate yourselves about all things Banksy.
Those who cannot remember the past are destined to repeat it.

VERMIN Authentication for Banksy Street Art, by mothegrass on Mar 21, 2011 19:09:36 GMT 1, VERMIN USE LYON AND TURNBALL AUCTIONS TO TRY AND FLOG THE STUFF BANKROBBER HAS IN THEIR SHOP, SOME OF IT THEY HAVE HAD FOR AGES.
SINCE THE INTRODUCTION OF PEST CONTROL THEY HAVE HAD VERY LITTLE SUCCESS ON THE AUCTION HOUSE FRONT.
BEFORE PEST CONTROL CAME ABOUT MANY PEOPLE BROUGHT STREET ART FOR THOUSANDS FROM WELL KNOWN DEALERS ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT THE ITEMS ARE WORTHLESS. MATTHEW FREUD IS A GOOD EXAMPLE (WHAT.. TOTTENHAM COURT ROAD W1) BUT THEN SAYING THAT IT SEEMS PC WILL ISSUE COA'S FOR CERTAIN PEOPLE(WITH MONEY) SO HE MAY WELL HAVE THEM NOW
THE WARHOLE FOUNDATION ALL OVER AGAIN ;D

VERMIN Authentication for Banksy Street Art, by Boy Wonder on Jan 26, 2023 8:28:08 GMT 1, I do. Vermin did not issue a physical coa rather they had a database where your work got (or did not) a reference number if they decided the work was authentic. So when I say I have a work with Vermin it means the work was in their hands and they authenticated it.

The premise of your question is wrong. "Certifications" by Vermin never had any value.

I didn't comment on authenticity. I commented on the value of Vermin's so-called "certifications".

It is probably a wrong memory.
Thank you all!
