It's on used drafting paper and has all the standard Bast features like crumples, finger prints and small rips and a full layout of something from a building on the back. PM offer if interested in purchasing, not interested in trades at the moment. Thanks.

WTB: Bast - Paris, by sfdoddsy on Oct 23, 2008 9:37:34 GMT 1, I'm a big Bast fan, but when I see threads like this with folk lusting after his work I wonder why some of the more recent prints have tumbled so much in value (at least on the Bay).
Is it simply that there are more of the later prints? A Video 6, which I think is one of his cooler images, didn't get a single bid at $800 USD. On the other hand a Six-Eyed Woman went for 1600 pounds.
I know which I'd rather see on my wall.
The Paris is cool, but not (to me anyway) as cool or as representative of Bast's current work as something like Trash & Royale, Video 6 or even Musk. Yet there is a Musk languishing at 390 on the Bay at the moment.
Enlighten me.

That's my point. Look at the images here (just plucking them off the Interweb):
www.vegasstreetart.com/displayartist.php?artist=bast
You'd have to say that the ones that are most in demand are the least interesting ... Golfpunk, Strangelove, Saddam...
Compare Golfpunk to Trash & Royale. Golfpunk uses a stock shot of Michael Caine with virtually no input from the artist aside from a witty line, whereas T&A shows him completely reinventing and reassembling multiple images into something that could only be Bast.
Ditto (on that page) Winehouse and Bvlgari. With most artists you want to capture a feel of the original in a print. I'll probably never be able to afford a Bast original, but the ones I've seen are much closer to T&A to Golfpunk.

I think the older stuff is much closer to his street pieces than the later ones. They have a roughness and urgency about them, as if not created in a studio environment. The ones you mention are great winehouse must trash and royal but for me lack rawness.

WTB: Bast - Paris, by Ripper1331 on Oct 23, 2008 18:19:43 GMT 1, Yep the yellow one is from the Tokyo show.
I much prefer the simpler black and white Bast images to the newer ones that have loads of stuff going over multiple layers of colors.

as ripper says, classics. simple, direct classics.

WTB: Bast - Paris, by Francis on Oct 23, 2008 19:00:43 GMT 1, sfdoddsy, that is a lot of shocking statements you are making there. Golfpunk, Paris, Strangelove, Werewolf Milano, Marilyn, Pan Am, Six Eye, and those of that era are some of the most classic street art images period...not just BAST images. They deserve every penny spent on them and if BAST was putting out more work these days, they would be even more, considering their super rare nature. You never see them in the market, and when you do, they get snatched up immediately.

WTB: Bast - Paris, by sfdoddsy on Oct 24, 2008 0:40:51 GMT 1, Yeah, I'm aware of their classic nature and importance to street art, but I styill can't help wondering what Bast thinks of the obsession with his earliest stuff rather than what he is interested in doing now.
Oh well, enough off-topic meanderings.
