Faile Canvas £25k / $35-40k, by snausages on Dec 3, 2008 16:18:42 GMT 1, Not my favorite canvas at all but if I had this kind of dosh I'd consider bidding. Pretty big piece (64 inches) and the low estimate (probably reserve as well) for this size is almost realistic. Although imo I think it should be $25k low estimate because don't forget auction fees and VAT...

Faile Canvas £25k / $35-40k, by motor on Dec 3, 2008 16:32:46 GMT 1, That's a beauty (although not my favourite either). I doubt it will go for the estimate - more like 2-3 times over it.

Faile Canvas £25k / $35-40k, by afroken on Dec 3, 2008 16:49:22 GMT 1, This is the one that was on sale at Andipa for £100,000. I see it's no longer listed on their site.
The Andipa price was ridiculous, but this is a great piece, if it sells for £25k it confirms that Faile prices have halved in the last couple of months.

Faile Canvas £25k / $35-40k, by snausages on Dec 3, 2008 16:58:43 GMT 1, That's a beauty (although not my favourite either). I doubt it will go for the estimate - more like 2-3 times over it. But Lazarides has 3 canvases of equal or greater size on their website for 50k (without the 25% premium) and I'm sure Laz has a number of things left over from the new show too. I'd prefer Laz's canvases if they were all the same price but that's just me.
Maybe if 2 people (oh say maybe Steve Laz and Andipa ) really got locked in a bidding war it could go for 2-3 times but I'd bet it stays within it's estimates.

most artists are off a good 40% since the october crash. I've seen some stuff down by 60% from where it traded a year ago. Pretty quick and severe correction.

I agree. Would not be suprised to see it barely make its reserve. I think people seriously over-estimate Faile's collector base and under-estimate the impact of the current economic situation.

Faile Canvas £25k / $35-40k, by Va Va Voom on Dec 3, 2008 21:36:23 GMT 1, This is a good looking canvas in the flesh, I would be very suprised if it didnt exceed the 25k even with the current economic situation.

Probably, but same can be said for every artist on this board...

Faile Canvas £25k / $35-40k, by snausages on Dec 12, 2008 5:30:56 GMT 1, So the Faile sold for exactly the low estimate/reserve £25k with auction fees that's £31k, seller takes home about £22.5k christies.com/LotFinder/lot_details.aspx?from=searchresults&intObjectID=5163419 All in all an ok price for a decent and very large canvas. Would be nice to see laz and faile adjust their prices to reflect the current market but that's not likely to happen. But if I were able to get a 70 inch faile canvas for £25k from Laz I'd consider selling half my collection and getting one of these bad boys. But £50k, just too damn much money.
Of note is that this Banksy did not sell at all. I liked this one and thought the reserve wasn't too high considering some of the other OGs with really high estimates that came up. A 9 square foot original painting for $45k, not too bad. christies.com/LotFinder/lot_details.aspx?from=searchresults&intObjectID=5163464

def not... maybe a private sale discount if anything at all. Any sort of price correction could ultimately have an affect on every artist he represents. With the economy the way it is, this could simply be a bump in the road. But if it's not, then Laz may have a situation on his hands and would have to start buying up auction pieces in order to better control their market. I just don't see him letting 20K canvas's roll by without action.

Someone had tipped me off that it was in poor condition. I took at a look at the condition report before the sale and sure enough, it noted a pair of large creases along the sides so this was not in pristine shape by any means though it looks ok in the photo.

Faile Canvas £25k / $35-40k, by RBK on Dec 13, 2008 5:54:05 GMT 1, Well I stand corrected on my 'go for double' guess. Quite honestly a very good price for such a large & strong Faile canvas.
