well, bankruptcies for starters
mass repossession of nick walker and micallef prints.
imbue becoming the star turn on a moribund POW.
people becoming so destitute they start building houses out of print tubes.
or maybe credit will start flowing freely again, and all will be well

Is the E-bay market settling a bit?, by ricosg11 on Apr 20, 2008 21:56:14 GMT 1, While I agree with you 100%, that is chicken shit money for auction house art collectors.
you would if you had more money than sense Someone walked in from the street and spent ยฃ50k on something they knew nothing about? Hmmm. Bit hard to swallow that one. You didn't answer the bit about the underbidder. He too had 'more money than sense'? ยฃ49k of it? People rarely do have 'more money than sense' when you get up to these prices. You don't get rich by haemorrhaging money like that. Exceptions (usually lottery winners) are few and far between, making the chance of having two in the room together even rarer.

Is the E-bay market settling a bit?, by bankruptcreative on Apr 21, 2008 0:15:36 GMT 1, Ambrosia, not sure I have understood you correctly, but I don't think the financial valuation of a piece affects its artistic value if that is what you were asking?

Is the E-bay market settling a bit?, by ambrosiabaptism on Apr 21, 2008 17:28:21 GMT 1, it was sorry if I read you wrong its just that I see a lot of these posts and feel that people are mixing arguments within there statements.
1. Art is subjective 2. How money and finance affects the art market is another thing.
As for the scene, the way I figure it, as long as people want to write on walls and/or display there art in public there is a scene (and that scene has been going on for tens of thousands of years) I also believe that there is something 'faddy' about what we are involved in here (on forums) but even so I believe that the work we see, buy and is displayed has a much wider and subtler affect on the public than is quibbled about on the forum ( more than just Banksy.info)
