Miss Bugs 5th June Brighton, by pimp on Jun 6, 2008 16:10:55 GMT 1, Pimp is the English version of ruralhick! Rarely anything positive or constructive to say and certainly not worth taking seriously! If you read through his posts, some of them are pretty ammusing, such as: "what do people see in guy denning? i mean wtf is that nakba piece about?!! some cutout letters on a not very well executed painting? for 2g's...........! madnessss" or "dale grimshaw = a nice mug of cocoa in your slippers and dressing gown before bedtime at 8pm" I don't think pimp gets why his posts are ammusing though!
i'm sorry obviously i should be taking a leaf out of your book:
bland waffle

Miss Bugs 5th June Brighton, by Heavyconsumer on Jun 6, 2008 16:13:43 GMT 1, Pimp, please go back to just lurking, it's amazing how one new member can bring the place down so far on his own!
You're an ignorant, closed-minded little tw@t. You don't have to like everything, but your posts are all irrelevant and add nothing at all. You are only posting to annoy people, don't you have something constructive to say about anything? If not, why are you even on here?

Miss Bugs 5th June Brighton, by alsbabar on Jun 6, 2008 16:17:04 GMT 1, i wouldnt go that far, it just lacked the substance and failed to meet the hype. If they were ยฃ350 - 500 per canvas, then you could take a punt - but i just cant get over the prices - and that I fucking missed out on the faile release (luckily i begged and got one in the end)

Miss Bugs 5th June Brighton, by Heavyconsumer on Jun 6, 2008 16:18:06 GMT 1, Alsbabar, I totally agree with you about pricing, but the fact that in your post regarding unoriginality, you referenced DFace, I find ammusing. It seems to me that the huge majority of DFace art is unoriginal in the same way. If any artist has benefited more from hype and lack of substance than any other, it must be DFace
That's the ticket pimp, conversation, well done!

take a punt?
Does that mean take a gamble?
As in dont give a shit what it is, but if the price is right i'd buy it and hopefully sell it in the future for profit ?

Miss Bugs 5th June Brighton, by killerkellah on Jun 6, 2008 16:22:46 GMT 1, the work was certainly designed based to a degree, which may explain the Dface / Insect comparisons - which can only be a good thing.
I agree, the pricing was high, but the fact it was nearly all sold means that it wasn't necessarily wrong. if it had been a few thousands pounds cheaper i suspect people would cut Miss Bugs more slack. but he/ she is a new artist and for a first show the images were strong.
To be offended that Miss Bugs is a rip off is laughable, we could sit here all night and point out who are favorite artists have all borrowed and stole from.

every piece of art you buy you take a punt on - when you spend ยฃ4000 on a canvas, you dont want it to then be worth ยฃ1000 or less over time - a punt also that the artist will over the years grow and establish, rather than jump on the bandwagon hype, then fuck off without a care for those who bought in the past.
Also that when you get it home, you dont regret it
And yes, why shouldnt you see your art as an investment???

Miss Bugs 5th June Brighton, by manty on Jun 6, 2008 16:41:01 GMT 1, yeah you right alsbabar, bang on, art is an investment, and anyone that doesn't mind losing a few grand overnight on something is a little strange in my book.
Unless of course they are looking at the longer term.
But we all have the artists we like and dont like, if you dont like miss bugs thats fine, but plenty do, if people want to buy at the prices they are up for then fine, if they dont then they wont sell.
I think its difficult to judge where an artist will be price wise in 2 or 3 years time, so I stick to the buy what I like and can afford.

Miss Bugs 5th June Brighton, by themightyreds on Jun 6, 2008 16:44:37 GMT 1, First off - thanks to Retrome, Scavos and Southerninvader for posting some great pics. I was in there for over an hour but didn't take a single pic so anyone else that can post pics please do.! Also, thanks for the email heavyconsumer. Got in there about half-3 yesterday and had a good long look at things - too bad i didn't get to say hello to anyone from here but i had my little-one with me so was a bit pre-occupied with him!!
Like others I think the show was expensive for originals, but apparently there was a rugby-scrum as soon as the doors opened [glad i didn't rush down there for that] so i guess the pricing can't have been too far off if people were dashing in to spend 2/3/4 grand on paintings they'd hardly seen. From the MIssBugs work a few pieces did look a bit re-hashed, but then i'm quite into the work so maybe thats me just being familiar with some of the elements used already... Highlights of the show for me were the pieces upstairs in the office - the 2 Miss Universe ones which i thought were stunning, and also the 3 eye-chart prints... i know a lot of people are banging these eye-chart prints but i really liked them and was very happy that i could buy myself a set after spending a good while there chilling and drinking cold beer! Other non-MissBugs highlight was the large canvas upstairs by Shaw... this was amazing but unfortunately just too much ยฃยฃ for me to go for... Low-lights of the show for me had to be the He-Man/Skeletor 3d prints... i just wasn't feeling these at all and if anything thought the looked out of place among the rest of the pieces there.
All in all though i had a great time there. Drive down was smooth, hotel was 1st class, show was cool, staff friendly, sun was out and it was my b'day to boot!! Little sticker/badge sets given out were a nice brucie too!

Miss Bugs 5th June Brighton, by bored with screen names on Jun 6, 2008 16:58:45 GMT 1, Some may have read my post about the Warhol prints I ordered being oversold (most of you probably didn't care....)
Well I called ink-d today and they have definitely sorted me out (with the help of Miss Bugs themselves). Both have garnered a lot of respect from me for resolving the matter fairly. Shouldn't have expected anything less!

I wasn't shocked at all. But I do personally feel they were too highly priced. With regards to the list, and as you've mentioned it, I checked this closely beforehand only to find the piece I bought had been increased by ยฃ100 at the last minute. That's a lot of money.

Nice one! Staff there, especially Lindsay, were all really cool and went out of their way for us too - they even gave me the number of a good local Indian take-away! From what i've heard the artist is the helpful sort as well and i'm fairly sure they [gallery + artist] were all taken aback by the demand at this show.

That's not so cool Scavos... ยฃ100 increase from price list isn't on.
Did anyone get any idea on when the pieces would be sent out/made available?

Miss Bugs 5th June Brighton, by Heavyconsumer on Jun 6, 2008 17:44:20 GMT 1, Didn't buy an OG, but they said they would phone me to ask whether I want my print sent tubed or flat and bill me seperately. I found this rather odd, as they could just have whacked on the extra charge there and then. Apparently the price quoted was for collection. Tubed within the UK will be an extra tenner and it's a score flat-packed.
