A beginners guide to the Nick Walker print release, by chablis on Apr 12, 2008 22:18:48 GMT 1, I was in the recent SouledOut Show queue at TLSG, and I completely lost my sense of humour. It was badly managed and that was for the 'Lies' print, imagine that but with a decent print and x10 the interest.
What ever you do, do not try to introduce anyone into a queue ahead of me. No brothers, no Grand Parents, I don't even care if Nick W himself is trying to get into the Gallery. He can wait like everyone else.
With the queue system it is only fair that it is first come first served even that favours people who can always take the time to do it. At some point near to the opening time, numbered tickets upto say 100 should be given out. The first 75 can then redem the ticket for a print during the next say 1hr or so if they don't buy in a fixed time (or at least say they will) then the numbers over 75 get a chance. One of the problems I had with TLSG is that people are queueing for a print and the rest of the art is being snapped up while you patiently wait for something worth ยฃ75. I missed out by the way, but not until after I wasted a lot of time in an unrealistic expectation of picking up a print. I want a chance to browse the show and have a print in the bag for when I am ready to pay. Stressful and just no fun.
It just needs to be black and white. yes / no you do /don't have a print.
I think the current interested is a very steep learning curve for gallerys unused to dealing with such things.
Hopefully BRP are prepared whatever the turnout.

A beginners guide to the Nick Walker print release, by uncle on Apr 13, 2008 0:31:23 GMT 1, I agree - reserving a space for family is not on (with the exception of for your gran at a book signing). I'm not going on Thursday either, its just going to be horrid - I hope all the genuine collectors get the goods and not too many pop up on eBay that very evening.
Also, while on the subject of flippers (which I hate talking about), maybe its just me but is it fair that the London NW releases go online for the globe to have a bun fight over? I noticed after the last release the ones on the bay were predominantly in the states. It would be nice if BRP had a restriction that you have a to be in the UK to be able to buy one - is that possible? just a thought...
Go Mr Walker! Can't wait to get down to the show, after its calmed down - does anyone know how long its running for?
Oh, and congrats to me for my first post!

A beginners guide to the Nick Walker print release, by spencerlee on Apr 13, 2008 7:28:37 GMT 1, Good post Chablis. I am not coming down, but if I was, I would be really nervous about the fiasco that most openings seem to have become now. Despite all the bad press that each one has had, including the Micallef fight, nobody has seemed to taken the bull by the horns and tried to proactively sort it out and make a fair queue.
Nobody is denying that with such a limited number of prints some people are going to be disappointed, but it seems like people are pushing in left right and centre and there is a general bad atmosphere in the rush to pick up prints with many of them ending up on ebay hours later.

A beginners guide to the Nick Walker print release, by T-Bro on Apr 13, 2008 10:10:08 GMT 1, i was in the micallef queue, i left after the fight, i may or may not have got the prints but for a pretty picture it aint worth it. I haver personally come to the conclusion that there are a hell of a lot of artists out there, people are over obsessing on a handful.
If you start to explore a little outside the norm you will hit on new and interesting artists - dont get me wrong - i will be trying to get print on Thursday but i cant believe i will have the opportunity to decide whether i like it before purchase and will just purchase it just because if i don't i am likely to regret it later.
people are undoubtedly buying the name - who can blame em when there is a quick buck to be made, but i for one will be trying from the comfort of my own home.

the fight made me realise that this isnt really about the love of art but the love of greed.
ive always enjoyed collective but things got way out of hand that day.
does anyone know what caused it? i think the guys still got their prints.
