Faile Gagosian Gallery Question, by snausages on Jul 17, 2008 22:43:17 GMT 1, Ryan Mcginley has a real monograph due to come out late summer early fall in a limited printing. Keep an eye out. His first book is really rare but the quality of the printing is poor. Still wouldn't mind having it.

Faile Gagosian Gallery Question, by Pattycakes on Jul 18, 2008 1:34:07 GMT 1, Well I first heard about this just after Basel, and it was confirmed again to me yesterday by someone who works for LG. I dunno, perhaps it's all shit, but I think it's pretty likely we'll be hearing an official statement soon enough

Wise move by Faile as far as I am concerned, I was worried about a BIG Laz price mark up.

Faile Gagosian Gallery Question, by dh on Jul 18, 2008 20:05:58 GMT 1, Also what difference would it make if Faile were taken on by Gagosian, apart from more exposure for this scene, I can't see massive price jumps in their work.

It's not at but with Laz. I believe lots of money they raised from the last releases are going into organizing of this exhibition. I hope it's going to be as I'm imagining ;D. As for the whole GG thingy - it is just a speculation and nothing else at this moment. (I wish it to be true though 'cos Faile are worth it IMO)

Faile Gagosian Gallery Question, by lee3 on Jul 18, 2008 20:40:34 GMT 1, >>>Also what difference would it make if Faile were taken on by Gagosian, apart from more exposure for this scene, I can't see massive price jumps in their work. <<<
It's an instant HUGE bump in prices for the originals. It's an entirely different league of buyers at that level and many will buy simply because of the association with that gallery. It also meas you have one of the most influential and dominant bidders in the market place proping up the price of the work.
If you think there is speculation in this space right now, it would pale in comparison to a day like that one.
Still, I wouldn't hold my breath on this rumor.
>>>if this happens, i am pretty confident the new york trust fund art elite will snap up all the confessions, fight vanities, tender forevers and unsigned pow prints for 10 times what they go for on ebay.<<<
Personally, and I could well be wrong, I don't think there are too many lithographs let alone anything unsigned taking up space in those collections.

Faile Gagosian Gallery Question, by snausages on Sept 25, 2008 2:07:04 GMT 1, jeez people come on, this is the most absurd bit of speculation this forum has seen. If Gagosian were to ever represent Faile, and that's a big if, it will be about a decade from now after Faile achieves museum shows and garners much more critical praise and accolades. And even then I think it would be extremely surprising. Deitch seems more appropriate.

Hirst have museum shows before Gagosian stepped in...dont think so.........Faile are well within his radar....FACT.

It's actually true. Hirst showed at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, exhibited at the Venice Biennale, was nominated for the Turner Prize(didn't win), won the Turner Prize, etc. all before Gagosian.

The point that I was making involved more established Museums(love ICA but doubt it would be considered as a Museum ) and am pretty sure that Snasauges would concur.

Faile Gagosian Gallery Question, by snausages on Sept 28, 2008 23:38:52 GMT 1, I was at Gagosian about a week or two ago seeing the Cecily Brown show. (One of the most respected and expensive woman painters in the world) I happened to be standing next to a gallerist as she was talking to a client trying to sell him a small sized canvas for over 100k. Aside from mentioning that the very large canvases were selling for 600k and that their clients didn't hesitate very much about buying them even in this economy she also tried to reassure the client about the purchase by mentioning that they don't represent emerging or untested talent and that they only represent artists at the top of their game. My words not hers but that's the idea she was putting across quite clearly.
Guys listen, Faile's canvases are pretty nice but there's no way Gagosian is picking them up anytime soon. I wouldn't say never but this is a very far fetched rumour put out by people to manipulate. Faile's work is great but so far it's just not the same league. They really need to prove themselves over time.
