Why does the article refer to these creatures as 'fish sticks'?
Are they not called Fish Fingers in America?
Did Captain Birdseye not sail to those shores?

Banksy โข The Village Pet Store and Charcoal Grill, by Heavyconsumer on Oct 9, 2008 22:21:46 GMT 1, I'm a little surprised that so few people are drawing paralells between these mini-installations and his previous work. Imo these are very similar conceptually to many of his images. I say this because each one is a very simple (or simple-looking) set-up with few components, yet it clearly translates a specific message. I'm looking at these and seeing commentaries on processed foods, animals being put in zoos and/or cages for our viewing pleasure, a strong anti-fur message. These commentaries, as much as the creativity that went into their communication, are part of what the artist is all about. There's nothing for sale there, but there must have been an awful lot of time and energy (and a good few quid) put into the show and there are some strong social commentaries for our consideration. Imo this is who Banksy is and what he does best, translating a complex or relevant message with the simplest of imagery, and in a way which often makes us smile. I was very excited about the videos online, because for me that is pretty much what the man is about, putting his views and beliefs into the public domain by leaving it lying around so to speak. And at least this way, greedy people can't take hammers and chisels to it for profit, it's just there for those who appreciate it!

Banksy โข The Village Pet Store and Charcoal Grill, by leumasdarnley on Oct 9, 2008 22:33:28 GMT 1, Just got back pretty crazy def worth checking out the whole thing is surreal I was standing at the front door and an old lady was asking if the cat was real. Its location and setup are perfect from the workers wearing coveralls to country twangy music in the background. Its in a nice area too so people are caught way off gaurd. The owner of the building next door was confronting one of the workers while I was there asking what the hell is this place what is going on here. Funny as sin. Anyways just got in the door downloading the pics and video now will post soon.

Was it anti fur? I thought it was just demonstrating how good a wild animal pelt looks with a silk lining and pockets

Sydney to NYC is a bit too long of a trip for me. If you sort me out, you will be showered with gifts and beer next time you are in my town.
I can't believe no one has mentioned how the cat in the front windows is pretty much a live animatronic version of barcode.......
