Love Banksy's statement about the Chiuhaha.
Hope the pet shop "tours" as would love to see it in person. People's comments on how real everything looks really make me want to see the nuggets "in the flesh".
PS IMO it would be great if this thread doesn't to turn to a Swap Shop or a sales thread for the Banksy business cards (it will help keep with the nothing for sale / trade policy of the show).

I think it was more about what political angles Banksy was working on, and that his work was more about ALL the political parties policy's rather than targeting any party in particular.

But this has more than made up for it. This is what it is all about. This is why people would visit this forum and contribute.

Banksy โข The Village Pet Store and Charcoal Grill, by giiiant on Oct 10, 2008 17:04:35 GMT 1, feel like a bit of a dickhead asking for one of those cards but its either this or ebay in a few months time so yeah, if you could i'd be very grateful indeed
now that's out of the way i thought this was cool:
"One of the pet shop owners is a tutor at the School of Visual Arts, Marty Abrahams.
His son was approached by Banksy's people with an offer of a short term job for Marty with some "acting involved".
Reaction from the natives has been anything from asking to buy the entire show, to befuddlement, to "it's a metaphor - we start off as chicken nuggets, graduate to hot dogs then turn into the masturbating monkey"."

LOL. I haven't been, I'm still in England what a nob!

Banksy โข The Village Pet Store and Charcoal Grill, by Heavyconsumer on Oct 10, 2008 17:32:46 GMT 1, I can't believe no one has mentioned how the cat in the front windows is pretty much a live animatronic version of barcode.......
I didn't get that vibe from this piece really (from seeing the video). Imo Barcode was about capitalism and it's predatory nature. Thought of the similarity crossed my mind for a moment, but when the camera angled round to show the animal for what it was, some faux-fur with a red silk/satin lining, the strongest feeling I got from it was, an animal, in particular a large predator, ceases by it's very nature to continue being what it is we're interested in seeing, if we cage it up to gaze at for our own ammusement. Whereas the tweetybird is aged, miserable and unhealthy and I took that as more of a direct message of cruelty and unfairness, I felt the leopard piece was more a demonstration of the question "how much are we willing to change/compromise the true nature of animals, in order that we may be able to view them as spectacles in a zoo?" (Is a leoprd that doesn't hunt still a predator, or just a beautiful animal hyde which has been robbed of it's life/spirit?) The rabbit piece was more of a fur-related message imo.
Admitedly the one or two videos I was less keen on have also been growing on me since reading what people have said about seeing them in the flesh, especially the monkey piece which isn't fully viewable in the video.

Banksy โข The Village Pet Store and Charcoal Grill, by tommyboy on Oct 10, 2008 20:49:07 GMT 1, any one see bbc news 24 some bint, putting down the whole concept of the show
saying jamie oliver has done more to highlight the issue of factory farming
also had a dig at the cans, saying it defeted the object of graf, having to queue and not being able to paint outside the designated areas
what do you think would have happened if POW didnt make people queue and advised not to paint outside the area??
Didnt have a clue
the more this goes on the more i like it, loads of press coverage, and debate, Is this now exactly what banksy wanted.?

Banksy โข The Village Pet Store and Charcoal Grill, by ilikekittens on Oct 10, 2008 22:25:32 GMT 1, The show is so well placed and thought about - there are so many pet shops in Manhattan - especially around that area....I came to the conclusion it's because most people there don't have kids and cradling a minature dog is...easier.
I'm glad that he has chosen the plight of animals - and so what about Jamie Oliver...I think Hugh Fernley did braver stuff - anyway, anything to raise the issue is good stuff
I love the poor little vivisection bunny wunny....the way she turns her head and blinks at you
The Monkey being how far the evolution of a man's brain has got (most evenings in on their own (tho, alas - sometimes when their ladies have retired early))
The caged leopard coat - wearing of fur and caging wild animals - meeeowww to all
Don't get the CCTV nest - tho I realise they are a bit of a trade mark
The barking sausages? - Dog meat is an Eastern thing surely? tho i get the hot dog pun.
Swimming Fish Fingers ?? - what does that portray? - can only think of over fishing in seas?
But then... Maybe some don't have double meanings - he just did it because he wanted to?
