Pictures of Micallef's Bethlehem, by thetruth55 on Dec 10, 2008 19:04:50 GMT 1, so what do you people think? is this Bethlehem print going to be a big flop on eBay like the rest of his recent prints.

Pictures of Micallef's Bethlehem, by ABC on Dec 10, 2008 20:50:44 GMT 1, Eyestorm prints were the best IMO. Nothing beats them, well apart from Bomber girl. I don't think it has anything to do with the printers, it's to do with subject matter. Since Micallef has been working with Laz he has changed his direction (Banksy influence? doubt it). He now paints Guns, Military etc etc but has always kept his fluent dark style, just changed the subject, possibly to suit the Laz market but I doubt very much he paints what he is told, no artist worth their salt would do that.
Still does not detract from the sheer talent the man has, he is outstanding.

Pictures of Micallef's Bethlehem, by They call me Stephen on Dec 10, 2008 21:03:10 GMT 1, I agree with ABC, the opus eye prints were by far his best (minus bomber girl & girl in a red dress) and i have seen few prints that match them personally for me.
The two recent pow prints do little for me, especially lovemaker, and in i wasn't overly taken by kiss at tower bridge either. Micallefs strong japanese/pop culture influences that first attracted me to his work seem to have been replaced by militaria although his talent is still evidently amazing. I'm sure his next release will blow me away...I'm going to aim to continue collecting his older works in the meantimem, just as soon as i can stump up the readies that is!

Perhaps you missed the meaning of Santa's Ghetto last year then.

Pictures of Micallef's Bethlehem, by slowmo on Dec 10, 2008 21:18:56 GMT 1, They're both great. I'll be playing golf on Friday so will miss them both, but given a choice I would take lovemaker, beautiful image hiding a very sinister message/ future for the child. I like bethlehems execution more, but lovemaker just blows me away in terms of its power as an image to really get you thinking about the whole Palestine/ Israel conflict and how mankind in general is not born evil, society works its magic over time.

Pictures of Micallef's Bethlehem, by sahoria on Dec 10, 2008 21:20:56 GMT 1, think this is the best art piece by micallef i have seen and in person looks stunning....
...meaning to me i guess would be loss of youth to the kids over there... before the wall they was free to walk around and go into neighbourhoods which are now blocked off.... for someone who is young that is hard thing to understand... tree they used to play at is now blocked by this lump of concrete....
when he went there he was effected by what he saw and like any other great artist he painted from the heart and how he felt seeing what he did. personally when i look at the bethlehem print it stirs emotions...
he could have done more angels with guns and would have looked great but i think this is a more powerful art piece to people in the uk / states and especially people over there who have to live with this day in and day out... i think alot of people over there on both sides of the wall will look at this print and think it captures alot of emotions and for me one of the reasons got into art... art pieces that makes me think and when i look at this one it makes me stop and think how lucky we are over here....
know sounds silly but simple thing of getting water from the tap take for granted... over there sometimes they would have to walk and get fresh water and heard stories on the news that now some people dotted along the wall have to travel alot more further to get for there families....
farmers who had land have now only got whatever is on there side of the wall... no one uses on the other side but there is no one to maintain it so the crops die and the land dries out... it is up to interpretation how someone views micallef bethlehem i think... it might not be a happy image but i believe it is an important one....s
