POW Open Day • 2008, by craigf on Dec 6, 2008 19:41:57 GMT 1, Just got back myself. I got there about 1 pm queued until about 3:45pm when I came to the conclusion I was still an hour from the office itself, but I did buy my 20 tickets, a Paul Insect on very flimpsy paper for a tenner and a nice Cyclops "Charlie Brown" statue. There wasn't really a lot going on and I am disappointed not to make it inside, especially as the Insect on metal sounds a good buy (was it £750+VAT or £750?), but it was ok as I do have a chance to get a nice little Banksy print. Both Micallef's looked nice and if your not choosy go for the one with the baby as this was the least popular as far as raffle ticket sales went

POW Open Day • 2008, by rrrich on Dec 6, 2008 19:50:58 GMT 1, seems there was mixed information being given out about the lottery. not read all pages so if theres repetition, apologies...as above, there are 3 separate lotteries: 1 for banksy, 1 each for the micallef prints. you buy tickets for the lottery/lotteries you want up to a maximum of 20 per person. micallefs are £500 editions of 150 and banksy is £350, edition of 299. in terms of winners, first drawn from banksy gets the nola with blue green rain edition of 30. second one gets a free tesco print. first from each of the micallef gets one of the prints free. also saying that the prints wont be available online at all and all are being drawn from the raffle.
i got there at 10 and was about 10th in the queue to get in the print room. waited an hour to get in. girlfriend got the eelus (which isnt sold out yet - about 70 left at 6pm) and i got a 1 of 6 kelsey brookes handfinished print (POW only had 2 of them for £287). really good prices on most of the stuff, especially the eelus at £150.
highlights were the banksy prints in the print room - photographs from the palestine wall. each was 11 of 15, £20,000 for the 4 being sold as a set and went straight away in the morning before i got in (not like i couldve afforded them!). micallef original for £12,500 plus vat was amazing and gone by the time i picked up my print in the evening. think the edition of 5 basts were all gone too.
wasnt particularly a great event - lots of queuing and glad i got there early. not really worth the 3 hour or so wait people were having. better just making an appointment another time.
oh the postcards were good too. got a micallef and banksy thomas one.

POW Open Day • 2008, by griffermans on Dec 6, 2008 19:53:04 GMT 1, Just got back after queuing with my 18 month old son for a bit. If you were in the queue at around 3pm you'd have seen him running around and shouting 'car'. Never stood a chance of getting in to see the art! Prob would have taken 3hr+ to get in! Got my tickets though and a 'Stay Free' t-shirt. Have to say not a great deal to see and do, but there you go, it is what it is!

POW Open Day • 2008, by rdl81 on Dec 6, 2008 20:14:18 GMT 1, right i was told that the nola green / blue was a one off....so first prize in the Banksy draw 2nd price is every little helps then 150 get first option to buy one of the others for £350 as the addtion is 299 there will be some for sale on line
As for the Micallef two lottery one for each print first 2 on each get one for free then next 148 get to by one for £500 so these wont go on sale.
THe guy telling me this had it written down and seemed to know what he was on about but if i am wrong i am sorry
I thought the Bast prints where best
Also just want to point out when Kevin Spacey showed up at around 3.30pm he didnt have to queue!!

POW Open Day • 2008, by lside on Dec 6, 2008 20:15:35 GMT 1, Got there around 6pm and was surprised to find no queue. I may have missed a bit of the daytime buzz but I think if I'd waited hours to get into the POW office i'd have been pretty disappointed.
Having seen it in the flesh I think the Micallef Bethlehem is stunning and I actually really like the small size of the 'very little helps' print. Fingers crossed for the lottery as I seem to have very little luck when it comes to F5-ing!

POW Open Day • 2008, by sahoria on Dec 6, 2008 20:28:15 GMT 1, just got back to birmingham.... happy got my tickets...when i was there was tempted to put all 20 on bethlehem print... it looks stunning! the size is huge and for me has to be the best print i have seen this year... sure others will disagree!
when looking to be truthful i looked at banksy and then my eyes went back to the bethlehem...it just grabs your attention and think whoever manages to get will be very very lucky!
the banksy looked good i thought just the size wasnt to big as others have said... after spending x amount of hours queueing i headed back home... just to see the micallef bethlehem print was worth the 120 odd mile drive... stunning!
i dont know maybe me but wasnt like previous shows... i really got into the ones attended before and enjoyed chatting etc this time around just felt different.... nothing towards pow sure whoever made it inside loved what was on show... whoever made it down wish you safe journey home!
think me being harrassed by the police before arriving to willow street put a downer on the day but as i said all was worth it to see the micallef bethlehem print... to be honest before liked micallef work but didnt think wow now seen bethlehem in person know what all the buzz was about... now till tuesday really going to have fingers crossed and if i dont manage to get think as a xmas treat to myself will buy one on secondary market if it comes up that is how amazing it looks in person!...s
