POW Open Day โข 2008, by Prescription Art on Nov 3, 2008 13:50:50 GMT 1, Not sure I agree with this. There have been some good POW releases this year. Sam3 is a real talent. The last Gee Vaucher print was a beauty and the VHILS prints weren't bad either. My only complaint would be that many of the prints have been too expensive for me.
OK yeah, fair enough. My statement was rather sweeping & both Sam3 and Vhils are amazing.

POW Open Day โข 2008, by Prescription Art on Nov 3, 2008 13:53:36 GMT 1, My question would be: based on the stuff POW has released this year, what exactly are people getting excited about seeing at the ghetto? I mean if it's in London i'll be there for sure, but based on the fact that POW seem to have lost their best artists & picked up a load of mediocre new ones, i'm not dusting down my passport. Who have they "lost"?
Well there's not been anything new for a long time from Banksy, Bast, Faile, Eine, Hewlett, Micallef and many more. If, however, they've all been saving themselves for some great new work at the ghetto i will happily eat my words.

POW Open Day โข 2008, by alsbabar on Nov 3, 2008 14:04:05 GMT 1, all this talk of SG08, is quite funny, what makes you lot think there is going to even be a santas ghetto this year?
After last year, how many made the effort to go and support a worthwhile project? How many of you that did go, ends up selling what they bought either via ebay or auctions? It would seem to me that people want POW/Banksy to make it easy for you to just rock up, buy stuff and then sell it on, like its some exclusive cash cow.
I hope if there is a santas ghetto it is again in Bethlehem or some place where the die hards would go, also it doesnt have any banksy pieces/prints for sale.

POW Open Day โข 2008, by kennas on Nov 3, 2008 14:55:05 GMT 1, I agree with alsabar to a certain extent. Surely though there could be a way of customising any print ie a hand written note from POW along the lines of "Kennas, SG2008, Bethlehem" , thereby reducing any sell on value, increasing personal value and discouraging flippers.

Does it have to come to this? We all wait around here begging POW to release something decent at SG. Then they do and we need to bow to them because god forbid the artists they hyped and built up are in demand........ If you have the money and make the effort shouldn't you be entitled to the work?

POW Open Day โข 2008, by bullet on Nov 3, 2008 16:26:09 GMT 1, dont quote me on this but i think when someone left POW d chose the route he wanted to go down, gave them a few bits to sell and decided to go alone, i think they days of dface at POW are long gone and nick walker has never been part of that crew, maybe because of the rivalry with banksy?

I think part of the reason D*Face is so strong now is that he has total control over his work, and by having his own gallery, and being able to print his own stuff if he wants to ;D Gotta be a good move for any artist.

That is very true you cant right these off just yet, most have gone their own way selling their work direct or by other galleries but POW + Laz.inc put most of their names on the map and I'm deff sure you will see more work from them... i think its a good idea they don't bring out to much art gives you something to look forward too
EINE's a bad man screen printer and if he don't end up doing no more prints at POW it will be very sad

POW Open Day โข 2008, by weaver on Nov 3, 2008 17:02:03 GMT 1, I think its pretty good PR for POW to have developed artists such as D, walker, Eine and dolk to name but a few, some of the POW releases of these artists work are still classed as their finest by some ( d-s DSTQ, Eine's Circus), I seriously doubt walkers black mona would have seen the light of day never mind selling out on any other site. Its good to see some of the artists they cultivated grow and blossom enough to branch out on their own, to be replaced by fledgling artists, Sam, Vhills etc.. Some of the artists who made it moved on, others such as Mr B, Micallef, Hewlett, Lucy etc... have stayed. I dont honestly see the artists that have left POW as a negative thing, as its good to see artists develop and move on, and I feel POW should be praised for the ability to develop and release artists, as they have a pretty decent history of it.

POW Open Day โข 2008, by mammal2 on Nov 3, 2008 19:09:15 GMT 1, all this talk of SG08, is quite funny, what makes you lot think there is going to even be a santas ghetto this year? After last year, how many made the effort to go and support a worthwhile project? How many of you that did go, ends up selling what they bought either via ebay or auctions? It would seem to me that people want POW/Banksy to make it easy for you to just rock up, buy stuff and then sell it on, like its some exclusive cash cow. I hope if there is a santas ghetto it is again in Bethlehem or some place where the die hards would go, also it doesnt have any banksy pieces/prints for sale.
I never read such a self important post in my life. Also kettle black.

so you gotta be rich enough to buy a plane ticket to be a "die hard" fan now? that sucks, i thought i was doing okay by just following and appreciating his work
