Much better than these! I really like most of them but agree that they are small. I prefer the pieces less focussed on shoes, dresses and handbags. I believe her strength lies in the dark side! Any news on yours mate?

antony micallef, by rob123rob on Sept 14, 2007 22:27:14 GMT 1, do you think if when you send an email to Lazinc on Wed from overseas to try to buy one of the few prints available, it would be ok to say "give me any print you have left"? Or do you think they would dismiss any order that wasn't specific? I like all the prints and considering how quickly they are going to sell I wouldn't care which one I got. I have a favourite of course, but I wouldn't want to put all my eggs in that one basket

Rob, why not list them in the order that you would like them. If there are any you don't like, then just omit it from your list.

Nice one Stu. Look forward to seeing on the Get them out thread.
Hey Rob - I really don't think that idea would wash to be honest. Probaly best to just go for the one you really want.

I know it's first come first serve, but does being first mainly rely on how fast your modem is (and of course who clicks send the fastest?) Because at precisely 9 am they have to be receiving thousands upon thousands of emails....

Why wouldn't Laz sell color prints for ยฃ1k? JD in B&W is of 500 and routinely sells for over ยฃ2k on the secondary market.

antony micallef, by rob123rob on Sept 15, 2007 0:54:27 GMT 1, do you think that part of the reason some people aren't loving the new prints so much is that it seems as though his art hasn't moved forward, so to speak, that much since the last prints on Laz? I think if these four prints would have been released at the same time as the last four on Laz, they would've probably been seen in a better light..maybe. I think people (myself included) were expecting something different, something more amazing then before, and it all seems like more of the same...which, of course, isn't bad when you're Micallef, because more of pretty cool stuff is still pretty cool stuff.....IMHO

antony micallef, by peggysue on Sept 15, 2007 6:49:42 GMT 1, They might have a lot of similarities to his other images but I feel AM has really developed his own distinct style. You can spot a Micallef from a mile away. Which is a very good thing for an artist.
The large edition size does turn me off a bit. Kinda think the Eyestorm prints are the way to go...for me.

I guess there is a yes and no answer to this.
Yes, I would like an artist to be recognizable, the old friend sort of thing, familiarity.
And No, as you have said, you want to see the possibilities of an artist developing, perhaps creating even greater work, rather than using the same technique and similar icons/models.
When lots of people grow tired of a range or work, and it seems some are and some are'nt at the moment, perhaps he will move forward, perhaps we have'nt seen his best yet!!!!

Picking up on this after a good nights sleep, so... I agree that his art hasn't moved forward on the basis of the 4 prints shown on Laz's site. However, I don't think that these 4 are going to represent the quality of work that will be available next week. I'm only basing this on faith in his talent as an artist and information I was given a couple of months ago on the amount of hard work he was putting into his work. I also wondered whether this release has been pushed by Laz with a regard to the 'untapped' US market where a whole section of people haven't purchased his previous work. Therefore a winning formula is being exploited in order to capture a new market Not saying this is the case, because it's quite cynical, but it did occur to me. The only way we'll have a clear idea of where AM is going is when we see pictures from the show.

antony micallef, by uksnowman on Sept 15, 2007 21:58:46 GMT 1, The thing that bugs me here is I've been incredibly tempted recently to fork out ~1200 quid for Choe's brilliant Citygirl 150 (roughly the going rate on ebay). But I haven't because it's alot more than I've paid for a piece of art before.
Now the mail comes along from Laz and I'm suddenly thinking, hell why don't I just head down there and pick up a Micallef for ยฃ1200? It might be my only chance to own one before his work goes way out of my price range.
I can't believe my own logic here but I think I've just been sucked in by the power of the brand!!
