antony micallef, by stuey09 on Sept 15, 2007 22:13:36 GMT 1, The thing that bugs me here is I've been incredibly tempted recently to fork out ~1200 quid for Choe's brilliant Citygirl 150 (roughly the going rate on ebay). But I haven't because it's alot more than I've paid for a piece of art before. Now the mail comes along from Laz and I'm suddenly thinking, hell why don't I just head down there and pick up a Micallef for ยฃ1200? It might be my only chance to own one before his work goes way out of my price range. I can't believe my own logic here but I think I've just been sucked in by the power of the brand!!
Sod buying it just so that you can have one before the price goes over the horizon. Buy it because you love the image. It's a lot of money for a status piece. You'd get bored of it before too long and if you've spent money on getting it framed, would need to find almost 1350 to get your money back. These are from a large issue, so in truth there are no guarentees that you would recover your costs. Be very careful. You said it yourself, Citygirl is a brilliant image, why not settle for something that you can rely on for value. Good luck whatever you decide.

antony micallef, by Coach on Sept 15, 2007 22:42:46 GMT 1, i have read all the criticism, and i know its not a new image, but peacekeeper, is, IMhumbeI, quite breathtaking. thought it the first time i saw the image and still think it now its a print. i would not hesitate to hang it on my wall. ;D not at all bothered about the size of the print run - larger run means more chance of getting one. just gotta work out the logistics, since i have to see kids off to school at 8.30 in the midlands.

antony micallef, by stuey09 on Sept 15, 2007 22:53:14 GMT 1, I agree totally. I find it a very powerful image. It's a brilliant conflict between violence and death (defiant pose of the soldier, semi automatic rifle in the alert position, Respirator, etc) and what I interpret to be peace (the pink flowers). Plenty of criticism related towards these prints, but I'm southbound next week with some cash.

antony micallef, by crazyhorse on Sept 15, 2007 23:18:53 GMT 1, As much as I think Micallef is a great artist, I am also a bit disappointed with these latest prints. I think they will all date very quickly especially Peacekeeper what with 6000 US troops leaving Iraq very soon. Also, the inclusion of guns in images is wearing very thin with me. Picasso was famous for his Minatours - is this an inspiration to or modern take by Micallef or does this show a lack of originalilty? I'm not sure.

you are probably right - I'm sure these images would have been conceived many months ago. Just a shame so many other images of a "similar" theme by other artists have hit the market earlier.

antony micallef, by foreman on Sept 15, 2007 23:59:58 GMT 1, so i just found this in the bullitin section of my myspace page... it was sent from "banksy the drinker"
Art Kieda PRESENTS Art $ale
Antony Micallef - Judgement Day- (2006) Limited Edition Signed Screenprint
To coincide with the launch of Antony Micallefโs solo Los Angeles show on 18th September 2007, Art Kieda will be holding a public street sale of one of the Artistโs signature pieces, โJudgement Dayโ. The signed Limited Edition screenprint, together with a custom-made museum quality frame, currently valued at ยฃ3000. Art Kieda will be selling the print for ยฃ300 (the original purchase price of the print when released in December 2006 by Pictures On Walls) at a net loss of ยฃ2700.
Micallef is on the cusp of being as huge as Banksy !!
www.antonymicallef.com
Full press release attached.
Art Kieda is a random collective of Art Terrorist Misfits whoโs manifesto can best be described as โtaking the pissโ. Their previous exploits include the kidnapping of Banksyโs โThe Drinkerโ sculpture and the de-installation of a Tracey Emin exhibit. No works of art were harmed in the making of these performances. โThe Drinkerโ, current whereabouts unknown, was recently stolen from a plot of waste ground on Anton Street in Hackney where it had quite happily sat in solitary contemplation for the past 2 years. Anyone with information that might assist in itโs recovery should contact Stoke Newington Police Station quoting Crime Reference Number 6024040607.
For more information and press enquiries please contact Rosalia at Ferrara PR on rosaliaferrara@googlemail.com or contact the artist AK47 directly on ak47@artkieda.com.

antony micallef, by Philippe on Sept 16, 2007 3:27:33 GMT 1, Just stopped by the location in LA and got sneak peek and saw a huge improvised minotaur on canvas in between Uzi lover 1 and 2 and the work is simply stunning in person. Not a huge fan of Micallef's work but after seeing some of the canvas's all I have to say is fuck this guys got talent. All I know is I can see each of these new prints hanging all over my house!!!! I might be the only one who feels this way so hopefully everyone continues believing they are top critics of Micallef's work and I'll be able to buy some of the prints for cheaper on the Bay than what their selling for at the galleries.

I don't know if it helps anyone, but I'm only going to be able to finance two prints. Thus, I'd have room for two more. Depends if you can trust forwarding that money to an unknown too. Although, neutral, a pretty well known boardy, will, I'm sure, vouch for me as we have conducted a sale once. I'm definitely want to get Peacekeeper, so that one is out for purchasing for someone else, but if someone's after one of the others then I'll try help.
