Official Micallef Preview Reviews and Comments, by collector on Sept 19, 2007 2:18:51 GMT 1, Just come back from the 5pm preview (heading back in a moment). The show is pretty good, no real progression on his stuff. As the show is in LA, it's very LA inspired. You can almost take any Japan inspired piece and see an LA version of it. The prices are VERY high, cheapest being $50,000 for a small charcoal drawing, upto $240,000 for the Minotour painting. The sculptures are STUNNING but made of solid chrome so a full time polisher required. Original scultpures $200,000, edition of 25, $45,000. Prints $2,000 but not available till tomorrow which is a pisser as I'm leaving for Vegas in the morning. nevermind. Have fun guys, sorry if my text is a bit crap, I'm had a few drinks. Bye for now.

Official Micallef Preview Reviews and Comments, by brainthedog on Sept 19, 2007 5:18:12 GMT 1, Just got back as well. saw some celebrities, but by and large it wasn't as good as I thought it would be. I talked to a couple of attendees and they agreed. There was quite a few unsold. Rumor is that LAZ and also Damien Hirst bought out most of the show. shite.

Official Micallef Preview Reviews and Comments, by lrworld on Sept 19, 2007 5:36:34 GMT 1, I was really impressed by the show! The paintings were larger than life. I could stare at all of the pieces and details for hours. I think after seeing the show I really want the 3 minotaurs, but I think I will have to just get the peacekeeper (if I can). The prints look great too. Micallef is the man right now and the show proves it.

Yeah, I barely even looked at the sculptures. The rest of the show was great. I loved seeing his work in person.

gent รacardi on Sept 19, 2007 7:39:40 GMT 1, I really liked it. Lots of awesome artwork, and the presentation was just incredible. Dora was manning the sales counter, and when I asked her if she would pose for a picture for this forum, she said something along the lines of "No, not now, not ever".
Hmmm... sounds no different from my dating life. *Sob*

Ha - you can hardly blame her!! Don't suppose you asked her about the Banksy prints?

The real Hollywood skinny? I bet they didn't even know who the feck Micallef was. They were just taking pictures for publicity. You get to tell the difference after you've lived in LA for a while

That's quite an accusation saying Laz bought them all but with prices so high It could ruin Micallefs career if its a total flop so I suppose some things have to sell.

Official Micallef Preview Reviews and Comments, by shavemysoul on Sept 19, 2007 8:27:17 GMT 1, Just wow! After the worry regarding the new lazinc images... faith well and truly restored in Mic. While the theme may not have developed massively, there are some real gems there that shows Antony's mind to have travelled a little, if not loads. Some stunning pieces there.
Thanks photoxtc +1

I think overall the show looks to have been a big success.
I'd like the POW print to be this (choice of the black & whites)
