ADAM NEATE - 1,000 Print Give Away, by Heavyconsumer on Nov 9, 2008 14:18:15 GMT 1, I thought of the issue with fakes, but reckon the site will most likely be active before the auctions conclude, with pieces chackable there.

Lets hope so.
EDIT: Adam is on the ball with Ebay and fakes so I'm sure he'll have this covered.

ADAM NEATE - 1,000 Print Give Away, by Heavyconsumer on Nov 9, 2008 14:28:57 GMT 1, Do you reckon this could be a way for Adam to try and devalue his street work. I'm not saying that's the sole purpose of the give away but if 20% of these end up on Ebay then surely that will have an effect on prices. Ideally, I'm sure, he'd like each and every piece to go to a 'fan' but those that don't will probably end up on the bay and so prices will most probably drop, ultimately with his work ending up back in the hands of his 'fans'. Win win situation maybe?
A pair went for just over ยฃ300 each last week on the bay. Condition was less than perfect, but still I've seen less attractive pieces go for a lot more. I don't think dropping these pieces will devalue his work in this instance. I think he's a phenomenon, in part, due to this activity to start with and, if anything, this could raise interest levels in his gallery work and prints. Besides, in this market, work hardly needs devaluing, many of Adam's prices have been dropping like stones - prints, street-pieces and even the few gallery pieces that reach auction houses are going for less than they would in at source at the moment. However, his work sells out instantly at source and just keeps getting better and better, so I'm not sure he should really be worrying about its' price on the secondary market.

Exactly the point, he is not thinking about secondary prices and he makes it quite clear in the article -
'"It is nothing to do with the state of the market โ it is about putting back in what I got out at the beginning of my career." The artist's aim is to reinforce the idea that street art was originally intended to be a gift, free and fun for everyone to enjoy.'
This is why so many people only have good things to say about Adam, an all round top bloke. His art ain't bad either

ADAM NEATE - 1,000 Print Give Away, by Ged on Nov 9, 2008 15:55:47 GMT 1, So, as someone who hopes to buy one of his prints very soon, do you think this will increase his popularity thus possibly have an effect on demand and so drive secondary prices back up?
After re-reading the article, uksnowmans and heavyconsumers posts, I agree that this obviously isn't his plan but surely it will have an effect

ADAM NEATE - 1,000 Print Give Away, by fuzzed on Nov 9, 2008 17:01:39 GMT 1, Adam's site now has the following link snipurl.com/591gx to the Indy's article. A very generous act on Adam's part!
It's about the only thing on his site? Is his site really that bare or is my computer refusing to load it properly?

Heres some footage of me looking for the last set of street Neates. I chose to drive around Hackney rather than walk. I also had a bit too much to drink!

ADAM NEATE - 1,000 Print Give Away, by quicksnap on Nov 9, 2008 17:18:44 GMT 1, to all of you who are worrying about the weather....suck it up. bring some trash bags, so if you find something it can stay dry. I wish i could be in London for this. I live much too far away. Be happy that things like this happen and go enjoy it, if you find a piece or not. At worst, knock out some school kid who finds one and thinks its cool, then take their wallet and go buy a pint. it would be win/win.

ADAM NEATE - 1,000 Print Give Away, by Ged on Nov 9, 2008 17:50:13 GMT 1, Sounds like an impossible task aswell. I imagine Adam Neate has a team driving around in vans distributing the art -but I find it hard to believe they could scatter 1000 pieces around London in 24hrs.
Why not? It could be done in a matter of hours - easily!
10 people dropped of at specific locations with 100 pieces each. At the end of the day, they'll only be on pieces of cardboard so they won't be heavy. Slip them in large postman style delivery bags and hey presto.

Who's to say the art is on cardboard - cardboard would probably blow away and end up in the road getting run over by the traffic.

ADAM NEATE - 1,000 Print Give Away, by Deleted on Nov 10, 2008 14:26:53 GMT 1, Hey i have also heard that, the 1000 are of a high standard. I did also here that they wouldnt be posted on his website. So people would not be able to fake them. So from looking at this, 1000 unknown pieces will be dropped london on friday. For me this is a great thing. It brings street art and back to the street. There will be no way for flippers to prove there Neate's i.e no link to the website. And gallery's won't be able to charge 2k a pop for one as there will be no prov what so ever. Its luck of the draw and art for the people.
Adam Neate is a genius.
