Genuinely down in the dumps? You'll get over it, it's only a print... cheer up, you're alive, enjoy it, there is lots of fantastic art out there, search it out, find it, enjoy it...

DID YOU WIN?, by hupster on Dec 10, 2008 10:24:24 GMT 1, why do u feel cheated? because u didnt win a raffle? POW do not owe u a banksy, nor are u entitled to one just because u attend the event, once again, its just a print, if these were not worth much more on the secondary market, there would not be that much fuss
I has nothing to do with the secondary market. I just cant understand why such low editions. Other than a very sneaky market plan and drip feeding the market just to keep it ticking over. Its very clear to see that the edition sizes are encouraging media attention. Hence more people trying to log on and more and more flippers homing in on a market demand. If there was an edition of 1000 for £350 then the flippers would get stung but still lower editions than last year.

Now that I think about it, youre kind of right.
Why wasnt NOLA released with this type of lottery at the Pet Store? It is an 'American' image. Just like 'Tesco' is a British image.

How many Banksys I have (or anyone has) is an irrelevance, what I'm saying is getting your knickers in a twist or getting upset about missing a print is a bit much. It's like getting upset every week if your 10 fold football accumulator doesn't come in.
Nothing to get upset about at all, much bigger things to worry about than missing a print.
As for releasing a signed edition of 1000+, the artist surely wants to keep his work valued. Bashing out monumental signed editions isn't going to help this - supply and demand.

Of course it is a market ploy. Do you starve the market and keep your demand high or flood it and watch your demand fall?

DID YOU WIN?, by Winter on Dec 10, 2008 10:50:11 GMT 1, Editions should be kept low. There have been so many Banksy prints released he's already starting to flood his own market. I missed out but that's life. I can't really believe people are so gutted at missing out on 3 kids saluting a Tesco bag. I think most are gutted they've missed out on the value of the print - not the content.

I lived not too far from Essex Rd and was getting pissed in the pub around the corner when it went up. I will hold it dear. Small as well, ideal for your kitchen or bolt hole.

I think the message is very clear on this one...
In my opinion it's about the power brands have over us and how we look to them to define ourselves. Brands have long since taken over from the church and the monarchy in controlling the way we think we should behave - how we look, what we wear, what we eat. We are (as a whole) a nation of consumers - in our world the brand is king, and there is no more powerful brand on these shores than the all-conquering Tesco.

Agreed and would add that it is a comment on multi-national corporations taking over the role previously occupied by nation states.
