New Faile Prints are showing on their site., by onemandown72 on Nov 8, 2008 23:42:57 GMT 1, I went to both the Faile & Parla show again yesterday, and I do think that a comparison is useful.
For me Parla is by far the more gifted and interesting artist, the varying scale and size of his work, the medium it's delivered in, and the way in which the whole show grows on you as you walk through it to culminate in the huge work upstairs. With Faile I found that it was more hit and miss, the marble bunny boy was great, but the pallets behind clumsy, once upstairs the layout was nice, and some of the pieces where amazing, but this again was hit and miss with the imagery. The prayer wheels again OK. I don't think that you can fault Faile on the execution of the canvasses, the detail and scale was hugely impressive and just looking at the work in detail bore this out. But the show didn't take my breath away. Faile have clearly developed, and I am a big fan, but I still don't see the raw talent in their work that I do in Parla's.

It's an interesting question and makes for an interesting discussion, which is why people get involved.
I agree that there is an element of the Beatles V Stones, and this is exactly why it is interesting. It shows peoples passions for their art and how the art has affected them. All of the above comments posted have in no way belittled either artist, more looking at how they are both developing stylistically, and yes the comparisons are valid as both are moving away from the street and into galleries.
I'm sure that most who have posted enjoy both Faile & Parla's work, and yet have a preference fro one over the other.

if you look closely they are on Keyfoods posters, thickly painted and with various cuts and tears. And not for sale, sadly, as they are gorgeous...

for the benefit of the hard-of-reading lets say it again. The pieces at Lazarides' print shop are TEST pieces being shown to COMPLEMENT the main show and show the progression of works/ideas.
they are NOT part of some 'yet to be released' set there to whet your appetite. Yes, there MAY BE prints released next year, based around these images but it isn't a certainty yet.
..and to start speculating about where these prints may or may not be sold is ludicrous. At least on one subject can we stick to facts please?

New Faile Prints are showing on their site., by aspyhole on Nov 17, 2008 0:37:12 GMT 1, I also went to the show yesterday, and I thought I'd walk around a little to see whether any Neates were knocking about(!), and I came across a fresh Paste up of one of those "prints" round the corner.
I don't know how long the paste takes to dry but it was still very wet. Either they were in town, or do the Laz boys go paste them up on their ciggy breaks!?
Fantastic show though - the "violence" depicted in the works obviously contrasted with the school setting, but the darkness and the shape of the room seemed to make it all the more appropriate which I found strange. Brilliant.
