Nick Walker • The Empire's State, by kahuna on Jan 7, 2009 20:28:56 GMT 1, yer people who work i feel so sorry Interesting social conundrum isn't it? With rising unemployment those who have no job can afford the time to queue to buy. They can't afford to buy to keep however. So they buy to sell. Meanwhile those of us with jobs can't afford to spend the time to queue. We can afford to buy to keep however. Can we afford the inflated prices of those with no job? Not I. Meanwhile those with no job will sell the art. They now have no job but do have money. They no longer need to get a job. Am I wrong in suggesting that BRP is causing the unemployment in this country? (tongue in cheek to an extent)
Post of the day :-)

Nick Walker • The Empire's State, by funyoung on Jan 7, 2009 20:31:02 GMT 1, Dear BRP, I would like the chance to purchase the Nick Walker TMA from you. I have a problem. It is called a job. It finishes at 5pm every day (in Boston, Lincolnshire). I am going to make the trip down for the Art Fair preview (I can't make other days). I will be there (all being well) about 8pm. Please consider a lottery type event at the Art Fair. Those that come get a ticket, you pull names out of a hat, that sort of thing. That way there will be no queue to man as no one needs to be the first in line. Have a nice day. Lots of love, Funyoung.
P.S. Boston, Lincolnshire can be classed as a whole different world from London so can I go in the 'overseas' lottery too?

You should have just said you were from Boston and left it at that...
Boston, Lincolnshire is a bit like Paris, Texas.

Nick Walker • The Empire's State, by rosstierney on Jan 7, 2009 20:52:12 GMT 1, there's nothing wrong with that in my book grantie though i actually despise lotteries
as i've said before, i'd rather be in as much control of fate as possible
if there are that many local people who can't make the opening due to work commitments, the print should take a while to sell out, giving you time to get down there
if you're not local, call in sick or book a days holiday which is surely better than paying a premium on the secondary market?
otherwise, there will be other great releases during 2009

Carrying around that sort of cash round the boozers during the day could prove problematic

LOL! Just to confirm this is indeed very true. I courted a nurse there once Oh, the good old 'stump'! Apparently Shakin' Stevens has just hit the number 1 spot with 'Green Door' in the radio Boston, Lincs charts, just pipping Antmusic to the post. ;D

I asked to go in the 'overseas' lottery but BRP have sadly not replied yet. Admittedly they haven't replied to my accusation that they are causing the unemployment in this country too. I'll wait and see.
(I must point out that Boston is a friendly town despite everything I have said.)

Some of this is just crazy talk! So you emailed BRP to drop half a grand on a print on which you had no idea of image or content? Mental PS If I have missquoted you apologies we dont know how much it will be yet H its not crazy i heard rumors of a new tma print and yes regardless of what it was I'm a huge fan of his work and I can't say I've seen any releases from him recently that I wouldn't have purchased upon release if given the opportunity....and a few hours later after receiving the email and seeing it was of nyc my home town I was thrilled,,,so I guess it makes perfect sense..cheers

The stump is surely the only place in the whole of a very flat Boston that its possible to do harm to yourself by jumping off it. Funyoung-ado you supprt the Mighty Boston United?. i'vebeen a few times whist visiting a friend. cute little ground.

Nick Walker • The Empire's State, by sharpy on Jan 9, 2009 15:56:02 GMT 1, “It’s a very British fair. It doesn’t change that much from year to year,” said Mike Snelle, director of London-based Black Rat Press, urban art dealers exhibiting for the first time. “The London Art Fair hasn’t got the energy of Frieze or some of the European fairs,” he said. “It does show there are interesting things happening in other parts of the art world.” At 6 p.m. sharp on the opening night, Black Rat will be releasing “Empire State,” a new print by the Bristol-born artist Nick Walker. The 3-feet-high colored screenprint, showing the New York skyscraper splattered with graffiti paint, will be issued in an edition of 175, priced at 475 pounds each. “We’re expecting to sell out the entire edition within the first hour,” said Snelle.
