banksy morons info help needed, by chav on Apr 9, 2009 20:58:49 GMT 1, Did I read somewhere that back in the day certain Banksy prints on e-bay were being blatantly shill bid(ded?) (on?) to ridiculous prices by acquaintances of Mr B and this is what started all this madness... (or have I just made this up?)

banksy morons info help needed, by Heavyconsumer on Apr 9, 2009 21:06:53 GMT 1, Grant, nice topic to choose and I'm sure you'll find an interesting debate on this image if you just start outlining your understanding of it on paper. It should take you there quite naturally, such is it's greatness, which lies in the clarity of its' ambiguity and irony imo. Good luck with the essay and learning to search the forum content!

banksy morons info help needed, by Heavyconsumer on Apr 9, 2009 22:19:26 GMT 1, lol! Seriously, it's that type of image that you could start your essay by simply describing what you see and I would imagine the rest will flow quite naturally - it beats thinking too hard also, imo, if you can get a draft or some bullet points down and then develop the ideas (in my experience), otherwise I can drive myself mad thinking about something and then after hours, when there's still nothing on paper, I think f**k, what am I doing again? I know that when relax and think about it, I find that I'm almost overloaded with the tangents of irony and ambiguity that pop up, until exploring them one by one and the ironies pretty much keep jumping out at me the more I think about it, while the ambiguities of this piece cease to seem so much ambiguity and begin to work with eachother.
Well worth taking into account as an afterthought imo, is the performance of this image at auction-houses since release, as I would suggest this proves what a triumph the product is in it's appeal to its' target market, that is unless the auction results are simply a joke by people with more money than I have! It's a bloody masterpiece imo. And this last point in itself is yet more ironic (if you agree with my statement) when you think about the source material used (the selling of Van Gogh's "Sunflowers" at auction). I would probably choose this as something to mention by the by in closing. Enjoy anyway, I almost want to write an essay on it myself now.;D
