Is this Faile normal or destroyed?, by curiousgeorge on Apr 12, 2009 12:52:39 GMT 1, Hard to say EXACTLY what it is from that picture, It sure aint normal practise to stick it down at as many points as that.Paper by it's nature can and will absorb moisture/heat from it's surroundings, when stuck down like that the paper has no room to 'breathe'
Are the brown spots the normal Faile handfinishing? Or is it residue left over from the glue used?
I would vote not normal at all without a doubt, destroyed is hard to tell via a computer screen

Is this Faile normal or destroyed?, by Heavyconsumer on Apr 12, 2009 13:11:42 GMT 1, I was just curious, as it's a nice print imo, but whoever did that to it was surely a bit liberal with the application, regardless of what kind of tape was used. I would have been surprised for people to say they thought it was normal, but at the same time, I've never watched float mounting done, so wasn't totally sure. Thanks for your thoughts guys. I think I'll stay away from this one.

Is this Faile normal or destroyed?, by redfred on Apr 12, 2009 14:36:50 GMT 1, I had float mounting done, it was heavy paper approx. 50 x 70 cms. and the framer said he had to attach it in 18 places to secure it. This was with archival corners/tape which is water soluble.

Is this Faile normal or destroyed?, by junkie on Apr 12, 2009 15:31:03 GMT 1, If you look at the last pic, the other one of the reverse, you can see where some of the hinges were removed improperly, tearing off a bit of the paper.
So yes, the print has been damaged. To what degree is difficult to tell from the pics.

I have bought a couple of Banksy's off him in the past. When this was being sold the first time it was framed, not sure how come its now not in the frame...

Is this Faile normal or destroyed?, by Greekboy on Apr 12, 2009 17:42:10 GMT 1, I think the seller mentions the high cost of shipping as reason for taking it out of the frame.
I too had a similar horrible experience with a signed LV Child that fortunately only had six hinges. Why they had float mounted it was beyond me, but I could notice the bumps from the hinges which ruined it for me. It was my favourite and most expensive print at the time and I couldn't stand looking at it. I would just concentrate on the imperfections which soured it for me and ultimately led me to sell it at a loss.

Why didn't you get your money back from the seller?

I had something similar with a cheaper image I got on the bay last year too. It was so rippled, but this hadn't been visible in the jpegs at all. I would have returned it bu the loss on postage (it came framed) would have been too much to accept for me, for the amount I'd have got back in the end. Sad when things aren't properly presented online. However in this case, credit goes to the seller for disclosure and I hope he does ok on that basis.

Thanks for the offer G, that's very kind of you. I'm gonna give it a miss for the obvious reason and also cause I shouldn't be buying anyway right now, but I'm grateful to you in any case. Cheers.

Is this Faile normal or destroyed?, by lastpost on Apr 13, 2009 8:42:47 GMT 1, I've had the same. Traded with a forum member for a very expensive print - when I went to collect, the conversation got onto ripples but I didn't put 2+2 together.
I sat at home looking at the print for weeks trying to convince myself it wasn't rippled :-(
Even my framer can't sort it...
