Faile Pink and Cream Butterfly Girl FS, by iwouldfollow youanywhere on May 17, 2009 11:14:13 GMT 1, what everyone seems to be ignoring is the fact this is the weakest Butterfly Girl -in terms of execution of the painted elements- that's been seen.
the orange is garish and has been slopped on without much care. Really detracts from the image. Self-appointed "experts" dankone and bobbyjr seem to have ignored this.

Faile Pink and Cream Butterfly Girl FS, by motor on May 17, 2009 11:42:28 GMT 1, The prices of majority artists has plummeted down - fact. It's not only Faile, it's Banksy, Neate, BAst, Swoon, Shep...and these are the top guys of this movement. I've always wondered what would have happened to the prices wouldn't there been a recession... I suppose the correction was about to happen no matter what, however this kind of drop, I don't think so. Prices aside - I believe in a quality of their work and that it will be something to talk about in years to come. I do think and hope that this recession will accelerate the separation of the rubbish from the quality. Only few will make it and lots of artists will be forgotten. It's the same with the art produced by the artists. I love Faile but there are some Faile pieces which I wouldn't touch at all but this one is a beauty worth every penny.
Agree with those guys who suggest to hang on to it. Things might change a lot in a year or so. If you gonna sell now you won't get top bucks for it but I am sure you aware of that.

I have to repectfully disagree. It was one of the first Failes I bought back in '06 - And still possibly my favorite piece. And I've owned & carefully studied over 45 Faile pieces. The fact that it IS so messily painted really lends something to the piece that can't be said for the more carefully applied paint of other NYC classics. It's by far the most "painterly" piece I've ever owned by Faile - and imo, pink, orange, cream and coffee are colors that compliment each other brilliantly. After all - it's not the paint in my bedroom, or the color of my car - it's ART. It should be eye catching.
Anyway, each to his/her own, that's what makes Art so great - But I for one believe this to be one of the greatest NYC Faile editioned pieces of all time. I certainly would have grabbed this a long time ago if I hadn't already had one from the source.
Just my opinion, of course, and no offense meant to anyone who feels differently gents!

Faile Pink and Cream Butterfly Girl FS, by mustard on May 17, 2009 17:18:26 GMT 1, This Butterfly Girl really is stunning, I don't agree with IWFYA at all but to each his own and to clear things up, I know the Dank One and if there are experts on Faile he definitely is one of them, I would put my money on Dank in a 'Faile Off' anyday, That boy knows his Faile! The thing that Iwfya doesn't like about this edition is exactly what Dank and Johnston and everyone else likes about it, it's loose and dirty and messy...gorgeous! I'm talking myself into keeping it so if I don't get a decent price, it's off to the framer and up on the wall. As far as what afroken said, yes I had it on ebay at first with a high buy it now and accepting offers (that's how most people list things when they are accepting offers) plus I wasn't really sure what the value would be in this environment and then I lowered the price, not sure what I could have done different? should I have kept the price high and relist it? I think I would have gotten railed for that as well so maybe you didn't want me to relist it at all, anyway I had people sending me back door offers that were very close to my listing price so I kept trying to work it out. Funny how much debate this has stirred, like I said before if I don't get a decent price I'll keep it.

This is a nice print so have another bump on me. But you may be better off holding onto this one a bit longer if you're hoping for a good price.
The originals of My Confessions (Jealousy/ Fantasy,) sold for $8k or £5.5k last March from source. These were strong images and were 1/1. I'd be very surprised if you were able to get £5k for print from an edition of 1/11 in the current climate.
Also, I was at the Dreweatts auction in Selfridges earlier this year and bid on a BG 1/1. My limit was £3.5k and I saw it sell for just under £4k.

Tell me about it! However, the guy I was bidding against was pretty determined and looked like he had deeper pockets than me. It was a yellow 1/1. A real beauty!

Cheers mustard. I make that around £3k which is approaching the limit I had for the 1/1.
It's a great print and I love the pink and cream version. Best of luck with the sale.

Faile Pink and Cream Butterfly Girl FS, by Philippe on May 21, 2009 21:24:45 GMT 1, Hey Silvermyn don't feel so bad the 1/1 was from a varied edition of 15. The auction house mislead you and it's buyer, unbelievable this type of thing happens.
Gretzky your the man, Bobby I aspire to be a connoisseur of Faile such as yourself one day.
Mustard either way you've got an incredible piece on your hands that will make you happy for years to come if you choose to keep her bro.

Faile Pink and Cream Butterfly Girl FS, by Deleted on May 22, 2009 9:40:40 GMT 1, very interesting thread - it looks like the intelligent debate is left for Faile
so just to continue this, we know Faile will be releasing further prints / og's from the Nov show through this year - can we see them reacting to the drop off in prices and selling at a lower level? because the current what was it $2.7k for a print edition of 20? (admittedly only 1 edition tho) seems out of whack especially when some of the images imo are not up to previous images..

Faile Pink and Cream Butterfly Girl FS, by Philippe on May 23, 2009 5:17:06 GMT 1, Honestly mustard if I were you I would hold on to her. You've got a particularly dirty example of an old school image, also after checking out Faile's last show we both know that their not going back in that direction anytime soon. The images now are much cleaner and intricately finished, which is also great but I prefer their older raw style.
I contacted dreweatts about that yellow BFG and they assumed it was an OG simply because it wasn't numbered. I asked the Faile boys about this and they told me all the 38 x 50 BFG's were from an edition. Personally there are maybe 2 or 3 colorway's I like but this work comes across a bit flat to me maybe its cause of their white border...
badrobot, Faile have always adjusted their prices based on what's going on in the secondary market. Although it has only gone up with them, they might lower their pricing slightly but I highly doubt it. Only because you've got to be fair to the buyers from the last release. About the current images you either like em' or you don't but what's happened for me is that I've come to favor specific new works that I'll try set my efforts towards acquiring. Kind of thankful for this so I am not over spending and buying all the images I like. When it comes down to it though this is just a series of new images and there will be plenty to choose from in years to come.

Faile Pink and Cream Butterfly Girl FS, by pezlow on May 25, 2009 7:56:59 GMT 1, The new releases certainly were expensive. I think Everything under the sky was the pick of the bunch, a very nice faile print and one that stands up very well to previous faile classics.
My favourite faile images are Butterfly Girl and Happens Everyday and this is one of the best versions of butterfly girl around, although I also really like the Shimmering Red version as well.

Faile Pink and Cream Butterfly Girl FS, by ambrosiabaptism on May 25, 2009 12:40:03 GMT 1, mustard unless you have to sell her Keep her as has been said by the Faile lovers cru she is a beautiful and rare example These are the people that would covert the piece and therefore pay top price . Faile are here to stay! they have earned enough money to stay in the game and move to bigger and better things. they know how to but on amazing shows which ultimately is the be all and end all of being an artist. I think we are seeing the very bottom of there prices and they will go up (by how much I don't know) and if they give it all up and move to Malibu to put up their feet these pieces will be along side others in the art history books under 'urban art' for definite !!!
you're on a win win mate ...enjoy it ;D
