Banksy Bristol City Museum Show, by trowel on Jun 13, 2009 0:23:25 GMT 1, My train goes to Bristol Parkway. How do I get to the exhib / how long will it take me? Havent been to Brizzle by train for a few years now, and never been to Parkway. G You'll either need to get a ticket on to Temple Meads - don't even think about travelling on with only a ticket to Parkway, as Temple Meads has ticket barriers on exit - or get a cab to Clifton (about ยฃ10-15 I reckon). Might be buses, never tried.
Re. cheap accommodation, there's a few overpriced dirty B&Bs in Clifton, but your best bet is somewhere like Travelodge or the Ibis around the Harbourside/Anchor Road - both only 15 mins walk (very uphill...) from the museum.

Banksy Bristol City Museum Show, by Heavyconsumer on Jun 13, 2009 0:32:04 GMT 1, Sorry Mr Etched. But you misread me. What I'm saying is there's NO progression..... there is but its not at your pace
Gotta say I agree. Some of the themes may be a little used now, but that's hte nature of the beast to an extent. As an artist who uses his work to comment on areas and aspects of our society he feels strongly about, you can't expect him to follow all the norm's when it comes to what the art world expects. That would make him far more boring and predictable than working the themes he cares about or enjoys imo. If people are looking for an artist who is only focussed on the progress of his own career and style of execution, I fear Banksy may disappoint, as seems the case here, but if on the other hand, if you want to see an artist producing work he believes in and using it to say something about the state of society around us, then take it as it comes and every now and again Mr B will leave you in shock and awe!!! The whole Pet Store concept was too great to let die by the wayside after NYC imo and I wish I were in the UK to pop along in person and see it along woth all the other work at the show (it looks superb from what I can see online so far).

Banksy Bristol City Museum Show, by junta on Jun 13, 2009 0:43:13 GMT 1, heavyconsumer is dead on. banksy is providing social commentary, why should he stop making noise about something and move on when the issue still exists. i think hes put huge effort into using as many mediums as possible...
love that petshop stuff, when i first saw it online for the nyc show i honestly couldnt figure if it was him or a project he supported or what!
then again teacher always said i was special

Banksy Bristol City Museum Show, by LEVI C on Jun 13, 2009 1:19:16 GMT 1, just got back too. Fackin brilliant, the geezers a genius, so many simple but perfectly delivered ideas. All the humour and irony you could dream of (far more), the most entertaining exhibition i've seen. I'd say the HUGE chimps in parliment piece had the most impact on me. I couldn'twork out whether it was hand painted by Banksy or not though? anyone?
had a few beers so i'll shit up before i type something i regret.
BRILLIANT, GET IN!

I would say that he's more of a conceptual artist nowadays. Unless he's learned to paint like a fine artist, learnt to sculpt and learnt how to build animatronics all within a few months. Plus to create a show with that many pieces would have taken a team of people ages, let alone one man.
He's Hirst Mk2 in my opinion.
I would hazard a guess that the stencil work and sketches were done by him, then the rest were entire teams of people, all experts within their fields.
But just like Hirst, he probably had a hand in each piece. I once saw a documentary on Hirst where he added the tiniest bit of paint to a huge painting...I think he's quite well known for this. Banksy probably did likewise.
Who knows, but the animatronics were obviously outsourced, so no reason why other parts of the show weren't.

If I had the money, that would be the piece I would like to own the most. I think it's absolutely incredible and is timeless.

Banksy Bristol City Museum Show, by buffin on Jun 13, 2009 8:36:20 GMT 1, Great night. Lots of highlights so go check it out for yourself. Love the studio and great to see the initial little sketches of some pieces. Lots of laugh out loud moments.
The 'no ball games' appears to be the one that was in Dreweatts auction but with the tv painted out and replaced with with a sign.
